In remarks some consider potentially offensive, Democratic VP nominee, Senator Joe Biden (Del), posed a hypothetical question contrasting who cares more about the disabled.
You know, just giving birth to a retarded baby doesnt prove much, Biden said. Consider the case of a woman who already has four children. Pregnant with a fifth that she has been told has Downs Syndrome, she has two choices. She can go ahead and have the babyadding to the burden on society and condemning the child to a life that may not be worth living. Or she could terminate the pregnancy and donate the embryonic stem cells to research that could help save the lives of others.
I ask you, which choice does more for the disabled? Biden continued. Think about that before you get all weepy over Governor Palins special love for her special needs son.

I vote for not tagging. I like seeing people get all fired up. Then I REALLY like to see what they say once they figure out that they've been "got".
You could post this article on Daily Kos & fit right in...
Drop the satire tag. It’s more fun figuring things out.
Keep the title without the satire tag. However, when posting, put the word SATIRE in this section of your post. That way...you’ve posted it with the article, and the title keeps the interest of the reader.
Ouch. Good one.
But that would ruin the fun!
Please don’t change a thing about the way you make your posts.
And please don’t listen to ANYONE who says you should be “ashamed” of yourself, or that you make FreeRepublic look “shabby”.
Good satire offends two basic groups:
1) The intended target.
2) Those humorless individuals who have been taken in by it and who will say “I know good satire but this is just OFFENSIVE”.
Keep up the good work.
Well done John. ;-)
As do I!
I saw no /sarc tag on "A Modest Proposal" from the greatest satirist since the start of our Modern Era.
That the remaining hundred thousand may, at a year old, be offered in the sale to the persons of quality and fortune through the kingdom; always advising the mother to let them suck plentifully in the last month, so as to render them plump and fat for a good table. A child will make two dishes at an entertainment for friends; and when the family dines alone, the fore or hind quarter will make a reasonable dish, and seasoned with a little pepper or salt will be very good boiled on the fourth day, especially in winter.
Keep up the great work! [I think you're John-to-John channeling here]
I’ll respond after I have calmed down on this whole issue.
You know where I stand, John.
Like Swift’s making the treatment of the Irish boil down by logical extension to the use of their infants as a ready food source, you have made the logical extension of Biden’s true quotes as you have cited.
The purpose of Satire is to produce outrage and then have that outrage turn upon the circumstance that fosters the ability of the satire to be effective.
You are reaping the negatives from your own ability, like Swift. In general, we don’t like being confronted with vile truth without sugar coating. It is painful.
The circumstance of this particurality is not one you invented but is already daily discussed by the left. If you had picked a target not in the news, that would be you being cruel rather than the leftists.
