I guess newsboy Charlie Gibson was the one who didn't do his homework. If, instead of being cute and trying to play gotcha, he had simply asked whether she agreed with the policy of preemptive strikes on America's would-be enemies, he would have been fine. But he was too clever by half. From The Washington Post.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin seemed puzzled Thursday when ABC News anchor Charles Gibson asked her whether she agrees with the "Bush doctrine.""In what respect, Charlie?" she replied.
Intentionally or not, the Republican vice presidential nominee was on to something. After a brief exchange, Gibson explained that he was referring to the idea -- enshrined in a September 2002 White House strategy document -- that the United States may act militarily to counter a perceived threat emerging in another country. But that is just one version of a purported Bush doctrine advanced over the past eight years.
Peter D. Feaver, who worked on the Bush national security strategy as a staff member on the National Security Council, said he has counted as many as seven distinct Bush doctrines.

Shouldn’t Charles Gibson issue an apology?
After a few days to reflect, Sarah came off far better than I thought she would. With misquotes, dumb questions, and questionable editing, ABC and Gibson are the ones with egg on their faces. Sarah did very well. No wonder they weren’t worried about her.
I cannot understand the crticism about her re: this question.
The online version of the Washington Post says the article is on page A 01.
I thought the media would think it a good thing that Palin wasn’t interested in Bush’s policies and doctrines......
I agree, and the more she talks and does these interviews, the smoother she’ll get.
It is. That is where I saw it.
If Gibson had any integrity he would offer his resignation. That was journalism malpractice at its worst.
Pray for W, MavPalin and Our Freedom Fighters
It was a partisan attack that backfired.
The libs are playing this out as a major gaffe on Gov. Palin’s part. BDS/PDS has gotten so bad that even a vacuous and trashy show like “Access Hollywood” went to the extent of hiring a “psychologist and body language” expert to “interpret” Gov. Palin’s body language during this portion of the interview.
It was to laugh. However, the viewers of that show (including my wife) will buy their crapola (EXCEPT my wife).
The Palin Derangement Syndrome is still in the gearing up phase and there are fringe element practitioners who have, yet, to emerge from the woodwork. The libs are trying to make the whole “Bush Doctrine” thing look like Gov. Palin lacked the experience and knowledge of the issues to be McCain’s VP.
What they didn’t count on is the fact that a LOT of America LIKES and ADMIRES Gov. Palin and, as they become educated about murky things like the “Bush Doctrine” most don’t care about the issue. Because of all the attention being paid to this interview, more people realize that it was a “setup” question that more displayed “Charlie” Gibson’s ignorance that Gov. Palin’s.
In fact, IMO, Gov. Palin handled the question exceptionally well given HER knowledge of the topic and Gibson is the one coming off as the ignorant moron.
But, the DBM, desperate to see marxism in our time, will do anything to prop up their “Chosen One” to “lead” this country down the road to H*ll.
Not gonna happen.
Have Rush and the other conservative talk show hosts elaborated on the trick editing etc. done by Gibson’s gang that has been so thoroughly discussed here on FR?
Caution: Don't hold breath ...
I know that everytime Sarah verbalized his name, “charlie” before each answer, had to sound like finger nails on a chalk board to Gibby. He definitely was getting pissed and his facial/body gestures during the “Bush Doctrine” were a classic and IMHO should seal his fate as the hack poser that he has become.
I also appreciated Krauthammer’s quick and accurate response to little George's post comments. Did he not see and hear the same interview that I saw and heard?
When, pray tell, will we ever get a chance to interview the interviewers?
Just sayin
I think this was huge for her confidence. After that, she can take on any questioning now.
Charles Gibson is the Dan Rather of the 2008 presidential election.
Once you realize Gibson was full of crap on the Bush Doctrine, Palin answered the question perfectly.
Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for the caution - I think efforts would be better marshaled asking Gibson for apology than to get Sarah on Oprah’s show. That petition I would sign!
I’m especially annoyed with the constant hit pieces and attempts to discredit this woman, Sarah Palin. We love Sarah and all that she represents. Why, because whom else in national government have you recently been able to so easily identify yourself with?
Now I ask; just what revelations about Sarah would cause you and I to question our faith in her and denounce her as just another self serving politician?
In addition to her obvious abilities we are the beneficiaries of the gift of her personal time, energy and efforts to become our champion. At 44 years of age, she will be a force for good for many years.
Just sayin
