I think Charlie Gibson supports the Rather Doctrine.
Boy I am watching some of it and his attitude is ridiculous.
Charlie Gibson was smug, arrogant and condescending. What is it with these news people? What a disappointment. Instead of an honest attempt at getting information, Gibson marvelously represented everything we despise about the MSM.
I thought she did a great job. First of all, the video of HORRIBLY EDITED. The Editor should be shot, it was so bad. It raises the suspicion that the Editing was done to unflattering effect on Palin. Even with the hatchet job, she looked confident and well-poised to me. The clips, when watched out of context, look less flattering on Palin. But overall she held her own.
As for the Bush Doctrine response, she did just fine. Gibson was throwing her a curve ball, and she didn’t fall for it. “The Bush Doctrine” is an ambiguous term that can mean a lot of different things, and she gave him an answer that was mindful of that ambiguity. That put him in the position of having to define what he meant by “The Bush Doctrine,” at which point she answered well.
I’ve never heard of the Bush doctrine but after looking around the net I found that it is the far left what use the term
so now we have a guy asking questions trying to play got ya and using far left slogans
unbelievable.
The man came across as condescending and arrogant.
I bet he would never say the same about Obama, well does being a community organiser give you the experience what is need for foreign relations.
Oh man, Sarah-cuda is tough and FEARLESS.
Agreed on that point about the “Bush Doctrine”.
The Governor is a TRUE LADY and handled herself in with poise and more gentle grace than Mr. Gibson deserved.
I just watched the whole thing. Here are my general comments:
First, and most important, she didn’t make any mistakes. She gave good, clear, thoughtful answers — but in plain language, not Washington-speak. For example, instead of pointing out our actual obligations under the NATO treaty if a member nation was attacked, she could have easily trotted out some vacuous Washington catch phrase like “all options would be on the table.” I don’t know this was a plus or a minus, but I don’t think it matters much.
Second, she never got angry or flustered. She has nerves of steel. The closest she seemed to come to getting annoyed was with the Bush Doctrine question, which was a trick question and she knew it. But she handled it okay. Overall, I thought that her answers ranged from good to great.
Third, the questions were extremely tough and more than a bit unfairly loaded. I didn’t mind this. The country really wanted to see how she would handle the real pressure, and she did fine.
Fourth, Gibson acted like a jerk. I was perfectly fine with that as well. I wonder how many other people noticed that you never see media types like Gibson ask Obama these types of questions. And again, I think the country wanted to know how Sarah would respond to someone acting like a jerk. She did fine.
Fifth, I don’t know how Gibson’s approach is going to play with women voters, as opposed to conservatives. He seemed to go out of his way to be an antagonistic cold fish towards her. Yes, there are conservatives who think that this was the media double standard applied to conservatives. I wonder how many women were watching who think this is the same double standard applied to women candidates for President (or any powerful executive position, private or public). For example, what did the PUMA voters think?
Sixth, I have seen many previous Sarah Palin interviews on YouTube. She is a very endearing, charming, bright, often funny interview. Gibson seemed determined not to allow this side of Sarah Palin to emerge. Nevertheless, you cannot totally stop Sarah from being Sarah.
I was concerned about her and the mania over her based on two speeches. We had not seen her under pressure.
Watching her in this interview took all my concern away. She is smarter and more articulate and calmer under pressure than Obama will ever be. I’d much rather have her across the table from Putin than Obama. The chick can handle herself. She made me a fan.
The left will hate her even more after this precisely because of her confidence in defense of America. They hate that and they will hate her with a hot frenzy. Just like they hated Reagan.
If this clown is the most "impartial", then I would hate to see the snakes.
His confusion at a "blizzard of words" at one answer, and his insistence on a "yes or no" answer to what clearly was an "it depends" question* clearly told me that he was working a rhetorical IED...
Sarah took the bait, without the opportunity to qualify the circumstances and the context of the question.
Only an idiot (I would include the questioner, here) could answer that question yes or no.
* Does the US have the right to cross the border into Pakistan to deal with terrorists?
I couldn’t stomach watching the whole thing - not because of how she was handling herself, but because of Gibson’s hubris (something he had the nerve to accuse her of). I’m not as a polite as Sarah - I would have told him right there and then that if he was going to insult me the interview was over.
Interestingly enough, I think Obama has gone on the record to say that we do have the right to invade Pakistan.
Palin didn’t walk on water, and her performance was by no means perfect. I’d like to see her slow down her delivery a bit, and to learn to give a Thatcherian cold stare “what the F are you talking about?” response to offensive questions, but she’s a fast learner and I’m sure this will come.
She didn’t hurt herself.
“...as if he was saying you know you can’t be Vice President.”
That is exactly what he was saying, in the tone of his voice, in his body language, and in the phrasing of the questions.
The lack of respect he was showing Gov. Palin was remarkable, but not suprising for a lib, and she was clearly prepared for it.
“I wonder if he posed the same exact questions of obama?”
No way! Questions to Obambi would be: “Do you prefer Nike or Adidas basketball shoes?”
I noticed that as well. Absolutely pathetic.
