Judging by this one video, the only time she appeared to stumble was Gibson asking about the “Bush Doctrine”, I don’t think she knew what he meant (and I didn’t either, as I’ve never used the term).

Some of his questions are a little goofy (”does the U.S. have the right to make cross-border attacks on Pakastani soil without their permission blah blah blah”). Palin properly answered in more general terms, along the lines that the U.S. has the right to take any reasonable steps it needs to pursue critical national security interests.

Charlie Gibson is so full of himself it makes me sick.

When he looked down over the top of his glasses with that smug, supposedly thoughtful looking furrowed brow and scolded “National security is a WHOLE LOT more than ENERGY”

I would LOVE to see CG tell BHO that “National security is a whole lot more than being a community organizer OR US Senator”. I know that will never happen, so I won’t WASTE my time watching ABC or its’ shows, I’ll just stick with clips on the web.

Are they disappointed in Palin or Gibsons condescension?

Allahpundit at Hotair and most of the folks at the Corner were anything from appalled to disappointed at Palin’s performance.

I haven't read Allahpundit but the Corner isn't anything like you describe. Sure, there are some negatives in the interview, but her poise will win the day -- not with liberals of course -- but they weren't going to vote for her anyway.

No that was the trap ?. If she said yes then she agrees with Odumbos statement from last year. if she says no then she is critizing our actions a little while ago. Great answer to a when did you stop beating your wife ?

Absolutely no effort at professional integrity on the part of Gibson. None.

Governor Palin got the cold, hard, condescending treatment from Gibson; like he was talking down his bespectacled nose at a little girl. - However, Sarah Palin does not suffer fools gladly. She made old Charlie look like Ned in the First Reader at every turn. - This is a sharp woman who knows a lot to begin with, but also has enough sense to gather the best, most knowledgable people around her in any event. . she does not blink, and she does her homework.

Old Joe is quaking in his boots. It’s about time he bows out with some malady or sudden need to “spend more time with his wife” or something. She does not suffer bloviating people gladly either, although she is courteous at least. Even IF Hillary would stoop to take the spot of VP now, which I doubt, she would just look like Obama was saying “ME TOO!” I CARE about wimmin, too! SEE! LOOKEE HERE!”

The extent of the drive-by’s “tough questions” for Barack Obama have been softball and “boxer or brief?” sort of subjects with total gullibility. If anyone had wondered before about the bias and disrespect of those arrogant men, they no longer do. Watch the polls.

Twinkie (. . and everyone knows that Twinkies can’t be taken seriously . .)

I watched the broadcast.
She did fine.
Charlie Gibson, on the other hand, blew his chance to have a meaningful interview and to explore who this woman is.
It was nothing but a string of mostly meaningless 'gotcha' questions - all of which Sarah handled quite well.
I would like to see her open tomorrow's interview by calling Gibson on his untruthfulness - the 'mission from God' quote was not exact, as he claimed, it was a chopped segment, and this missing parts change the meaning entirely.

his verbal and non-verbal communication traits show total disrespect of Palin. I hate to repeat myself, but I would love to see how he asks obama the same exact questions. Plus, I would like to see how many uhhh and ummms and you knows and that is above my paygrade answers we would get from obama

Look the Corner does some nice work but the dirty little secret is that they are our "elite". It is inevitable that Washington pundits and writers see things differently than the hoi polloi. Every time I heard both Republican and Democrat pundits declare that Gore or Kerry beat Bush in a debate I laughed because the next day the polling showed the exact opposite.

I didn't see the interview but Sarah Palin has to learn how to handle the bottom feeders. I'm sure this was a good start.

My submission to ABC/thanks for the link:

I don’t recall Charles Gibson asking this line of questions concerning qualifications to the Democrat Presidential candidate. It appears to me that the community organizer’s resume is much weaker than Sarah Palin’s resume and therefore he should be asked the same line of questions.

Until the major media leaders such as Charles Gibson ask the same to Mr. Obama, I will continue to get the majority of my news from alternate sources. I find this interview biased and condescending.

I likewise haven't read Allahpundit but did read the Corner. This comment from one of the bloggers is fairly typcial of what I saw there:

On the whole a good start, though perhaps not a great one. Tough questions, all handled well, and a decent command of complicated issues. How many members of Congress, for instance, would have done as well? I’ll be curious to see the full transcript and video, and the remaining clips to air tonight and tomorrow.

By the way, when do we get to hear Barack Obama explain why he thinks he’s ready on day one?

Thanks for the link. I have satellite tv and no abc channel to watch. I think she was very forthright, determined, completely comfortable, and excited. I didn’t see nervousness, anxiety or dread. Solid interview.

Well I was going to watch it on ABC, but I could not figure out what time any of the interviews would be on. Their website is useless.

I’m not sure if this was ABC or the You Tube poster, but I was a little troubled with the editing. If it was ABC, shame on them for chopping it up in places where you could tell she had more to say.

she hammered Gibson...he is such a smug elitist SOB and she put him in her place...at one point he’s huffing and puffing because she didn’t answer the questions he wanted them answered...I was a little concerned about the debate- I can’t wait....

any American who sees this interview will back this woman 100%....

fabulous job....and the half-cocked headlines they are putting out about this interview will ultimately just draw more people to her....

She’s good. Obama would have drooled on himself if he was asked these questions.

She answered 50x’s tougher questions with “Charlie” than Obama was asked by “Billy” last week.

I swear it feels like the media thinks she’s running for President (I wish now it was so). She’d absolutely crush Obama in a debate. Crush him.

She is aggressive but controlled and impressive.

Agree with your point about Gibson’s body language - very intimidating. Gov. Palin was cool and maintained a level tone of voice and demeanor throughout, which I think shows her underlying confidence. Throwing out the phrase “Bush Doctrine” made it a trick question - I had to go look it up myself. I think this was a clear attempt to trap her, and it didn’t work. In fact, it was in retrospect quite brilliant to side-step a categoric endorsement of a doctrine bearing Bush’s name - but then to in essence support and agree with the principle of the doctrine.

She’ll do fine in future debates where there’s not a grumpy old fart of an Inquisitor sitting there looking down his nose at her.

“I found him very insulting as if he was saying “you know you can’t be Vice President”.”

IMO they are deathly afraid of her. The only reason they are treating her this way is because she’s a conservative and gonna take Obama down. If she where a rabid liberal they would be singing her praise.

This only shows the Dems are truly sexist just as they are racist. Their women have to become men in order to get respect. A feminine conservative woman is worse than Freddy Kruger.

I thought she did a great job. First of all, the video of HORRIBLY EDITED. The Editor should be shot, it was so bad. It raises the suspicion that the Editing was done to unflattering effect on Palin. Even with the hatchet job, she looked confident and well-poised to me. The clips, when watched out of context, look less flattering on Palin. But overall she held her own.

As for the Bush Doctrine response, she did just fine. Gibson was throwing her a curve ball, and she didn’t fall for it. “The Bush Doctrine” is an ambiguous term that can mean a lot of different things, and she gave him an answer that was mindful of that ambiguity. That put him in the position of having to define what he meant by “The Bush Doctrine,” at which point she answered well.
