I don’t see any virtue in this ‘accomplishment’. This is nothing to gloat over.

The Palin family will eat that bounty. It's not for show. It's food.

It's meat in the freezer, and the Palins have a lot of mouths to feed. It is quite an accomplishment, and providing sustenance to one's family is always something to be proud of. Furthermore, she's taught her children how to do the same in the future for THEIR children.

The Accomplishment is questionable... but I can speak from experience that putting up 500 lbs of meat from the hoof to the freezer or smokehouse is difficult and demanding work. Even in our rural circles it's difficult finding people who want to help.

I think the photo speaks volumes; if not for the accomplishment then for the character and philosophy of this woman.

I knew I was going to get grief for this. If it’s food, it’s food. You do what you have to do. My point was gunning down a caribou is not an accomplishment (unlike killing snipers in the Sunni Triangle), and then heralding its bloodied, dying body as a trophy is in bad taste. I know a lot of you will disagree, and feel free to do so. But it’s just my personal opinion. I have nothing more to say on this thread.

Are you a true vegetarian? At least wild animals have a chance! The sheep, pigs, cows, chickens etc. have NO chance in the commercial food business.

By the way, how do you feel about abortion? We know how she feels.

Don’t even go there you anti-hunting moron.

I see a great accomplishment. First of all she can handle a firearm safely and obviously knows how to shoot well and put an animal down humanely. Secondly she is teaching her daughter a life skill of putting meat on the table. Teaching her kids to hunt teaches them personal responsibility, woodsmanship and survival skills, respect for nature and the renewable resource, and is a great family outing.

I am sick of anti-hunting nuts. You know nothing about modern day game management, resource management, and only get your meat at Burger King. Stuff a sock in it, you don’t do squat. It’s the hunters that pay for game mangement and are responsible for the tremendous populations of game animals we enjoy today. If we want to eat them, that is a good thing. If you don’t like it, tough. We pay huge amounts of cash to the Game and Fish Departments for the priveledge of hunting. Without us hunters there would be no herds to hunt since we pay for all the management. You need to step back and do a little homework before you attack us hunters.

If I have insulted you, too bad. I don’t have to put up with Bambi loving, emotional, uneducated anti-hunters.

No gloating, but ... everything is food. Including, ultimately, you and I. I honor and respect the caribou, the elk, the deer, the moose that dies in this manner, that will provide life for me and mine.

One of modern mankind's problems is that we have become dissociated from that final part of life, death. Our old folks die in hospitals or nursing homes, all too often out of sight and out of mind. Our food dies on the slaughterhouse floor, only to wind up, seemingly magically, as plastic wrapped, 16oz steaks or baby back ribs.

You’ve never spent any time in the woods trying to find/catch large critters that can move a lot faster than you, have you?

“...I don’t see any virtue in this ‘accomplishment’. This is nothing to gloat over...”

Really? So, being able to:

1. Be a self-sufficient woman who can provide food for her family other than by buying it at the local Shop n Save, who hunts, guts and cleans her own food to provide for her family, and doesn’t chuck her lunch or go sqeaumish and faint when ripping through animal entrails - THAT’s not an accomplishment?

2. Be the woman Governor of a large State, and NOT be a Liberal whack-job Democrat - THAT’s not an accomplishment?

3. Be a Pro-gun, Pro-life conservative woman Governor in an atmosphere of liberal whack-job lunacy that says it’s Okay to be raped and strangled with your own pantyhose as ong you don’t carry an eeeeevil gun to defend yourself, and it’s wrong to execute convicted psycho killers but it’s OKAY to murder an innocent unborn child? THAT’s not an accomplishemnt???

So - your point is - Pointless, actually, it would seem. Not to mention stupid.
