Some Thoughts on Sarah Palin: Be Very, Very Careful When Criticizing [From a Gay Website!]

John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin was a bold move.

Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty may have made more sense from a strategic point of view. Palin was such an unexpected and historic choice that it totally big foots the media train around Obama's nomination train. No one is talking about Obama's speech and nomination. It's as if last night didn't happen.

Palin has strong social conservative credentials, is the darling of the evangelical and pro-life movement, and, is a woman. That is much more than enough to re-energize the right-wing, bring out the Republican faithful, and, wedge more than a few votes. Palin is also being re-packaged as a moderate environmentalist and "smart" on oil and energy. Nothing that laugh at when the price of gas is going up and the country is facing choices on drilling.

Palin's resume is paper-thin but she doesn't undermine McCain's experience argument. She neutralizes it. Bay Buchanan and Amy Holmes are already on CNN promoting Palin as "a new Republican" for independent women.

Palin should be handled with respect. If Democrats mock the experience of the Republican's first female vice presidential nominee—the day after McCain placed an ad to congratulate Obama?—it becomes "fairytale" part deux. Many women will probably become just as uncomfortable seeing Palin's qualifications debated as many blacks were uncomfortable when Obama's experience was knocked. Republicans and conservative puindits are already accusing the Democrats of sexism and connecting this to the horrible, sexist treatment of Hillary Clinton. It's a smart move because Clinton attracted many Republican women in the primaries.

Sarah Palin has just as much "experience" as Virginia's gay-baiting first term Gov. Tim Kaine or the clueless Republican lite first term Sen. Claire McCaskill. Both were promoted as serious vice presidential options by the Obama campaign and the media. Oh, and championed by numerous "progressives" and readers of this blog. (Check comments.) If you want to criticize the Republican vice presidential nominee, go after her wingnut positions or her this-close relationship with the evangelicals and social conservatives. Criticizing Sarah Palin's perceived lack of experience will not be a winning argument.

in July 2007 my cousin in Juneau told me the McCain runners had spent ten days in and about Alaska vetting Governor Palin.

That's actually very good to hear. An ABC author wrote that McCain only decided about her early this week, as if it's decided in haste. It means McCain's campaign has already known her strengths and weaknesses, including any possible skeleton in the closet. The Dims are already running the ex brother-in-law, which when details come up seem to be dangerous for them to make it a campaign issue.

Forgive me, my FR brethern and sistern...

Tonight I was NOT interested in the breathless Fox Nuz updates on the missing Caylee/Casey/”Tot Mom out of jail” saga (yes, a lurid and tragic story...but NOT tonight!!!)

So I pushed the button...and crossed the line to MSNBC...and watched a portion of Keith Olbermann/Oberman/Uberman ...whatever, you know the twit to whom I refer. I could not look away. It was like watching a car wreck or a Baylor University football game. (I am BU, class of ‘75..go Bears!)

I am shamed. I wasted valuable electrical atoms on watching this loon trying to find a viable criticism of Gov. Palin.

He failed. He even got corrected twice on the facts by his running-dog contributors....

The BEST was when he brought up the “sordid” way she allegedly got her Ex-brother-in-law fired from the Alaska State Police...Highway Patrol..whatever.

OKAY...Keithy-boy had this woman I recognize from other appearances elsewhere. (Short, dark hair..think she might have some connection to Err..uh..Air America).

SHE pointed out that Gov. Palin did not have the Ex fired. What Palin did was insist that the Ex be investigated for (among other things) using his taser on his 11-year old son. When said investigation swept it under the rug...Palin had the investigaTOR investigated...similar cases found..his ass out the door. The next person in that office re-opened the case..the Ex is out..end of story.

Keithy-boy’s guest said (direct quote) “This is a non-starter. Most women in America would say ‘good for you’ and so the Democrats should not even try to go there.”

ROTFLMAO.

There was more of great amusement for me and embarrasment for the Keithmeister, but it was all unclean. I must take a hot shower. May tomorrow bring me better discipline. :-)

And Obama’s people, being Chicago street thugs who don’t know how to back away from a fight they can’t win, will keep going in that argument, comparing Obama’s experience to Governor Palin’s. The result? Barrack Obama will effectively end up running for Vice President against Sarah Palin.

Best summation I've read all day. The trap is sprung.

Oy. Cafferty is a clueless tool. "The most trusted name in news" indeed. The media in this country is shameful for the most part, and has let the American people down. Thank God for Free Republic.

One of my favorite quotes is from Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman (my tag-line is Sherman also):

"I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are. If I killed them all there would be news from Hell before breakfast." William Tecumseh Sherman

Is it possible that McCain and his advisers have pulled off the biggest trick ever in politics ? A long term strategery by swinging out all the way left in platform(to grab the broadest base)before knuckling back all the way right,to where they meant to be? Possible?

I am pumped at this awesome choice by McCain. I never supported him in the primary, even when he was running by himself, I did not support him. As much as I knew BHO would scuttle this country, this evangelical was considering sitting out. But after the chain of searing cheap shots, the superb ads, I have greatly warmed up to McCain, And now I can at least pray that God may have mercy on us, and if the old guy causes too much damage cooperating with liberals, his heart may give out.
I know... its pretty bad, but I’m sure there’ll be more then a few able to hold their nose and vote for McCain hoping Sarah Palin is the one that winds up serving out some remainder of this 4yr term. But hey, it’s a lot of more votes for John McCain, and Obama won’t get elected.

“The very best thing is that Palin’s nomination totally smashes Hildabeast’s hope beyond the next 8 or 12 years.”

You have a really good crystal ball. I don’t see this election resolved, much less knowing what 2012, 2016, or ! 2020 hold.

“This campaign has developed into a classic case of liberalism versus conservatism. Right versus wrong.”

VP picks are bread and circuses for the masses, Cheney’s extraordinary role in the bush administration aside.

I would characterize this as ‘blatantly for-sale-to-foreign-power catspaw’ (this is obama, who must be totally overwhelmed by what has happened the last 4 years of his life and totally out of his league) vs. ‘i am a globalist and already have my client list, thank you’ McCain.

VP picks are window-dressing to try to alter electoral outcomes via whatever dynamic.

What no one is pointing out today is this: Obama’s camp will say Palin has no experience.

Bambi can say what Bambi says.

The fact remains, first-term governor trumps first term senator any day of the week.

And remember, Palin is running for VP. That means McCain's ticker has to stop before her experience is relevant. Whereas the Messiah would have us bow down and accept his wisdom upon being sworn in.

The more Obama says about the experience issue, the more he disses all who sit down to pee. The more McCain says about the experience issue, the better picture the sheeple will have to take to the polling booth!

I was flipping through the liberal CNN today just to gloat a little (is that bad?) and I thought they were going to have a stroke. Cafferty was so upset I thought any moment he would foam at the mouth. I mean he could barely control his anger. It was great.

Yeah, I was stuck with PMSNBC yesterday on AFN News when the announcement came through. Those reporters and talking heads were apoplectic! They were imploding before my eyes and I watched and laughed with delight.

“.........Palin/Jindal 2012?.......”

That is my hope! Jindal has a genius IQ with a load of common sense. A rare combination.

He’s a reformer and corruption fighter, fiscal conservative and all round good guy.

He’s very quick on his feet verbally too.

Just watch how he handles Hurricane Gustav as compared to Blanko / Nagin vs Hurricane Katrina.
