With some help from On the Issues, Not WRIGHT for America has compiled the following "dirty dozen" list--the twelve most radical positions Obama has taken on illegal immigration. There was a lot of competition for these twelve spots considering all of Obama's far-left wing votes, comments, contradictions, and outright lies. But after careful consideration, the winners, er, losers, are:
1. Obama supports taxpayer-funded attorneys for illegal aliens fighting deportation 2. Obama supports driver's licenses for illegals--in minimizing this, he claims that illegals come here to work, not drive. Has it ever occured to him that they might do both, driving to work? 3. Obama calls immigration raids "ineffective" and has gone so far as to accuse ICE of terrorizing communities with raids 4. Obama supports amnesty for all "law-abiding" illegals 5. Obama believes most illegal immigrants are entitled to more rights than non-minority native born Americans (supports full citizenship for illegal immigrants, and then racial preferences for formerly illegal immigrants once they become citizens, if they are minorities) 6. Obama opposes making English the official language of the U.S. government and supports efforts to make the U.S. a two language nation like Canada 7. Obama supports taxpayer subsidized in-state tuition for illegals, and goes so far as to call laws prohibiting this "inhumane." 8. Obama wants to prohibit illegal aliens from working but allow them to stay in the U.S. Who will pay to support them? One word--WELFARE! 9. Obama supports welfare for legal immigrants, but he feels to say why we should allow people into the country who will become a dependent of the state 10. Obama supports sanctuary city policies that handcuff police and prohibit them from informing of ICE even for violent illegal aliens 11. Obama supports social security for illegal aliens 12. Obama has mislead Americans by pushing the false argument that deporting every single illegal alien is impossible, so we must offer all of them amnesty, ignoring the effective self-deportation strategy championed by Center for Immigration Studies
As bad as all of these are, the strangest one is to permit illegal aliens to stay here, but prohibit them from working. Here is what Obama said on this at a Democrat candidates debateon December 4, 2007 on NPR:
"I think that if they are illegal, then they should not be able to work in this country. That is part of the principle of comprehensive reform, which we're going to crack down on employers who are hiring them and taking advantage of them. But I also want to give them a pathway, so that they can earn citizenship, earn a legal status, start learning English, pay a significant fine, and go to the back of the line. But they can stay here."
This could not make less sense. Who will support illegal aliens who are permitted to stay here but prohibited from working? Stupid question, it has to be you and I through massive new welfare programs.
We've said beforethat McCain has a bad record on illegal immigration, and yet it is infinitely better than Obama's. The issue of illegal immigration will not receive appropriate attention this year because McCain is afraid to engage Obama aggressively on it, no doubt due to his own checkered record. But on this issue, there really is a difference between the candidates, and McCain is the clear choice for those who believe that laws against illegal immigration should be enforced.

On this issue, face it, it’s a toss up. I expect such from a democrat, but a republican?
