I neither knew Tony Snow nor did I pay a lot of attention to him. In any case, I hope that he left many treasures to his family.

I can't imagine losing a father at the age that his kids did. At some point, I'm sure Snow had to tell them that he wasn't going to be around for long.

I've often thought the same during this and other similar circumstances, especially when it seems the most evil people continue to live among us.

Yes, it puzzled me that a very well written article by a man that has been around for along time closed with that line. Perhaps it is temporary feeling of despair.

I’m not sure Mr. DeB has given up on God.
He just doesn’t understand the sovereignty
of God. All of our days our numbered.
Tony Snow didn’t waste one second of the
time he was given on this earth. I’m also
quite sure that anyone he met was a better
person for knowing him.

That is not what he wrote or implied, IMO.

I have no doubt that hundreds of Tony's closest friends, and many thousands he's never met, looked up with a big hurt in their heart, wishing it could have been different.

Wondering why (which is what Mr. deBrorchgrave did) is not unusual, nor is it unhealthy.

God knows I've been in some bad sorts and couldn't figure things out - heck, sometimes I figure I'm doing pretty good if I can measure the time I'm flabbergasted, flummoxed, frazzled or just plain f'd in hours and days, rather than weeks and months!

No matter the circumstances, when I do ask, He Answers.

Let's give Mr. deBrorchgrave the benefit of the doubt that he either has or will ask, and that he gets his answer.

Those of us who loved Tony would have wanted him to live to be 100, but, if he was in pain and could not be the person he wanted to be, it would be selfish of us to demand that he remain here on earth when he could be in the Presence of the Creator of the Universe! I have often heard it said that once the believer finds himself in that awesome "City Called Heaven", he is surrounded by such love and happiness that he would not want to return to this sinful world, even if he could.

Many on this board have criticized Rick Warren, but one thing that really stuck with me from The Purpose-Driven Life is that our time on earth like a blink of an eye when compared to eternity. We spend our days on earth so consumed by the things of this world that seem so important, but do not always spend enough time preparing for eternal life in Jesus. I am as guilty of this as anyone else until the death of someone so young and so good makes me focus again on what is really important.

I was just reading the Scripture in John where
Jesus brought Lazarus out of the tomb after being
dead for a few days. Before bringing him back
from the bosom of Abraham, Jesus wept.

It occurred to me that Jesus was grieved because
he had to bring Lazarus back here, to this sinful
place, away from the presence of God.

I look at why Jesus was grieved over Lazarus was because was because the House of Isreal was so stubborn to accept Jesus for who He is, so he had to bring Lazarus back to show who He is. When it comes to suffering, look to the Passion of the Christ and know that all suffering if offered for the glory of God will do great good.

Often the saints of God suffer not only as a reminder of the sufferings of Our Lord in the Passion, but also to give the Creater glory and as a witness to the need to have faith in Him. Plus to run the race to the end.
