A Different World Right Next Door

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Canada is a cultural dichotomy. We are a collection of very singular and – dare I say? – distinct peoples who have very little in common, yet are feebly tied together through pseudo-patriotic themes such as beer commercials and donut shops.

Confederation, that wonderfully impossible concept of complete and total Canadian national unity, has never worked and never will. One trip to a different part of the country proves that unequivocally.

That is what became apparent to me during my camping venture in British Columbia.....

Every parking lot you see, even at provincial parks, are pay-parking. In fact, we noticed user-fees on almost everything you could see in the open...

How are you supposed to pay for free health care if you don't. Never mind that their lowest marginal tax rate is 40%...that's not enough to cover it.

Beer and doughnuts isn’t the worst way to be unified. :)

That would be true if Canada’s ‘free healthcare system’ was actually FREE. Sadly, like honorable liberals and Ogopogo, that is just a popular myth.

Good article.Must admit i’ve never been to Canada-but lots of experience dealing w Canadians on vacation in Fl.As a kid i worked many summers on StPete Beach.Don Cesar,Breckinridge, various restraunts, etc. For the most part i found Canadians very gregarious, polite, just regular people(despite being lousy tippers).Folks from Quebec were a totally different experience.Rude,arrogant,surly.....Hard to imagine folks so different, but from the same country.
