At the perspicacious solicitation of another Freeper, I decided to get off of my lard butt and either find out if a more enterprising Freeper than myself has already gotten a Tampa Bay (FL) Freeper group going or, failing that, seeing how much trouble I may be getting myself into. (Yeah, I know, drag-on sentence.)
Ideally, if there already exist such a group, I and my anonymous friend could slot ourselves into the esteemed crowd. Failing that, lets see how many like-minded that there may be.
Unfortunately, my work with Transexual Lesbians for Obama and the Maine Manatee Rehabilitation Project take most of my precious time.
We are currently introducing the Florida Manatee to Casco Bay, and despite the good wishes and financial support of Michelle Obama, and many volunteer Manatee Companion Swimmers from the TLO, it is not going well, despite Bush-Caused Global Warming raising the Bay's waters to 38 Deg. F.
However, I shall follow your adventures on the site assiduously and wish you the best of luck and stay out of the Doll House!
Count me in!
I am honored by your support but bemused by your project list. At any rate, having made many a trip down to Bradenton when my folks lived there, no point in risking those trips across the “Bob Graham Bridge” unless necessary. (I believe it is “Thee DollHouse” but that is only en passant.
I’m in St. Pete. I’m sure there are many Freepers in the area, but I’m reminded of an aquaintance that once said, “I’m not an alcoholic, I’m a drunk; alcoholics go to meetings.” My point is, we are scattered about a wide area divided by the Bay and getting together for meetings holds no attraction.
Might I suggest something more along the lines of ‘events.’ As examples: cookouts, boating, that sort of thing. I’d rather tube down a lazy river than sit in a restaurant. But that’s just me.
I can see this too. However one has to start somewhere and, as it now appears, this may be a start for 'something' involving local Freepers in our area. "The journey of a 1000 miles ..." you know.
I’m in Oldsmar, right across the water. bridge or Causeway and I’m up for it.
Just checking back in. It is gonna get hot, the next few months. It may be that some of you have never floated down a spring-fed river on an inner tube. I’ve been doing this off and on, since I was little.
It’s a delightful experience and a great way to meet people. In my experience, you get a cheap fake life raft from a Box Store, and tie long leashes to the oarlocks, then everybody paddles about and meets each other, while floating down the river. When you get hot, you roll off the innertube. When you get hungry or thirsty, you pull yourself over to the life raft and grab a sandwich or a drink (and drop your litter).
If you haven’t tried this, you should.
I will be communicating via "Private Reply" with those who have expressed interest.
I have an idea.
Given that our deployed troops are effectively unable to vote (less than 6%, on average):

And we can’t expect Pentagon bureaucrats to do anything about this mess maybe we can. Somehow, it must be possible to pry a list of deployed personnel and their hometowns from the Pentagon, then post it. I know my local
Elections Supervisor knows that I am watching how her office performs in the processing of absentee ballots from the troops. People from every County in the Country could be culling out lists of locals and seeing to it that those personnel are getting their ballots, and seeing to it that they are returned and counted.
This could energize people in every single District in the Nation. We could start this up as a Tampa Bay area effort and see if we can get the ball rolling. Whaddaya think?
