Senator John McCain invites potential running mates to his ranch. Who do you like?

Posted on 05/25/2008 2:02:16 PM PDT by Sun

I heard on tv that Gov. Bobby Jindal, Mitt Romney, Gov. Charlie Crist, Rob Portman, Senator Sam Brownback, Senator Joe Lieberman were invited to Senator McCain's ranch, and some (or all) are potential running mates.

So I'm doing some research on them, and would like to hear what other FReepers think about these people.

Of course, it's not a "done deal" that any of these will be the running mate, and it could be someone entirely different. I also like Sen. John Thune, Governor Palin, J.C. Watts, Michael Steele and a few others.

I LIKE Gov. Bobby Jindal - he's very pro-life and received a 100% rating from the ACU when he was a congressman:

http://www.conservative.org/pressroom/2006/0604052pr-.asp

I also like what I heard so far about former Congressman Rob Portman.

HOWEVER, if McCain picks Gov. Charlie Crist, there is NO WAY that I will vote for a McCain/Crist ticket, and here are a few reasons why: ----> "Crist initially drew the ire of pro-life advocates when he voted against a 24 hour waiting period for abortions when he was a stat Senator. That action and his reluctance to take a clear pro-life stance in the gubernatorial election, prompted Florida Right to Life to endorse Gallagher in the September primary."

http://www.lifenews.com/state1803.html

----> Crist is a tree-hugger:

"Offshore drilling separates hopefuls

Gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist opposes rigs within 125 miles of Florida's coast, while Tom Gallagher supports the idea."

http://www.sptimes.com/2005/11/07/State/Offshore_drilling_sep.shtml

MEANWHILE, Red China is drilling offshore of Florida.

----> Crist supports "Earned legalization" which is AMNESTY.

Brownback....

I suppose McCain could claim “Southern Christian” credentials from him. Senate collegue....another Rino looser. Hunter beat Brownback all over the place....BUT, NO...we need an open border fool to keep McCAin happy.

I wouldn’t be surprised it he doesn’t go with Brownback.
This senate is totally worthless. McCain ought to be discounted because he hasn’t bothered with his senate job for 10 years....except for his big hearings on baseball and drugs and amnesty. He showed up for that!

Romney's position on rifles chambered in 5.56/.223 and 7.62x39 is well known and documented. Therefore, I cannot in good conscience ever support him. Leiberman is way too liberal, and he's still a DemocRAT at heart. Crist seems to be another RINO, so he's not high on my list. Brownback I would support. The other two I know very little about.

“Brownback I would support.”

Why?

My bet is on Joe Lieberman.

McCain is a centrist and has no bones about it. Together, John and Joe could rally the masses behind any socialist program. That's the goal anyways.

McCain needs a true conservative -— but we won’t see that... Rick Santorum or Jeff Sessions or Mike Pence would go a long way toward reuniting the conservatives with McCain’s brand of Republicanism.

I’d like to see Jeff Sessions on the Supreme Court. He is so thoughtful and logical and just.

If McCain wants to win, he should be doing everything possible to get Colin Powell on the ticket with him.

When McCAin looses this thing, I wonder if he’ll go ‘independent’ like his friend Lieberman did. Joe is disliked by democrats about as much as McCain is by conservatives these days....their old VP nominee.....my how things change and still they stay the same.

To be honest none of them really light my fire, but right now I am rather a bit in a don’t give a damn mood about the upcoming election and the GOP for that matter.

I agree with you, why?

Brownback went from a solid conservative who switched to Catholicism(nothing wrong with that) howeve once he switched to Catholicism he began towing the church’s line on illegal immigrants.

I’d be satisfied if a year from now Hunter was either VP, Sec of Defense or head of Homeland Security.

I like Brownback’s pro-life, and other conservative positions, but it REALLY bothers me that he is soft on immigration.

I would really like Rep. Duncan Hunter, but I know that’s not going to happen.

Who do you like best out of the ones that McCain might pick?

I keep hearing that Governor Crist of Florida is pretty openly homosexual. Can anyone in Florida (or elsewhere) confirm or deny this?

McCain asking Powell (because of ideology) wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Then again, Obama should ask Powell! (and that wouldn’t surprise me)

“If McCain wants to win, he should be doing everything possible to get Colin Powell on the ticket with him.”

The last interview I saw with Powell he said he hadn’t decide whether he was going to vote republican or democrat in the prez race.

I don’t like Romney’s position on having a “partnership with China” - we already have an approximately $275 BILLION trade imbalance EACH YEAR with RED China.

But, at least Romney is better than Charlie Crist or Joe Liberman.
