Sheesh! In an unbelievable display of a lack of common sense, the Obama campaign chose The Decemberists as the band to perform prior to the arrival of the Obamassiah last weekend in Portland. For those unfamiliar with the Decemberists, they often open their acts with a rendition of the national anthem...of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. I kid you not. I found one of their Soviet Anthem tunes on YouTube but the quality really stinks and all you see is mostly darkness and people yaketty-yakking in the background. However, you can hear and see the Soviet national anthem in a more entertaining venue in the Rocky IV VIDEO above. IMHO, Rocky IV was probably the BEST of all the Rocky sequels. Of great entertainment value was when the Soviet soldiers stood up in full uniform and bellowed out the Soviet National anthem as Communist flags with a grim Ivan Drago emblazoned on them rose into the air. Also of interest was the Gorbachev character in this flick who gazed angrily at his Sports Commissair after Drago was knocked out. And who can forget that terrific speech that Rocky gave to the crowd? Yeah, in the context of this movie the presentation of the Soviet National Anthem works from an entertainment POV but if you are a presidential candidate, do you really want to be fronted by a band who frequently uses that anthem as an opening. BTW, does anybody out there know if The Decemberists did play the Soviet anthem when opening for Obama in Portland?
One other thing of great interest in light of Obama's previous aversion to wearing the American flag pin. It turns out that in The Decemberists music VIDEO Sixteen Military Wives, the EVIL American representative makes a point out of wearing the flag pin on his lapel. Yet more cluelessness from the Obama campaign. What next? Jeremiah Wright doing an opening comedy act for Obama?
One of my favorite TV moments of the 1980s was watching Nicolai Volkoff sing the sing the Soviet National Anthem before his WWF wrestling matches. He sang fairly well and was undaunted by the loud chorus of boos he got every time. What a showman.
"During the first Gulf War the band temporarily changed their name to Massive after pressure from their label, to avoid implying support of the attack on Iraq.[3]"
"Weather Underground is the current working title for the fifth studio album from UK band Massive Attack. Artists currently believed to be contributing to the vocals for the album include Tunde Adebimpe, Hope Sandoval, Tom Waits, Dot Allison, Horace Andy, Mike Patton, Liz Fraser, Damon Albarn and Mos Def.[1]
During an interview with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 on 19 December 2006, Robert Del Naja of the band stated that the album-title is likely to change by the time of release."
I don't know, but if they did it would be quite appropriate for an Obama rally considering that he wants to introduce many of those really great USSR social programs such as a socialized health care system into the US.
Or would it be more accurate to say an UN-healthy care system? But look at it like this, a long and healthy life is probably greatly overrated so you won't be missing too much if ObamaCare comes to the US.
Obama consistently surrounds himself with people who hate America.
Actually, it’s the lead guitarist that the interview is with.
