Drop Out, Obama
Trailhead ^ | April 24, 2008 | Chris Wilson

Even as Hillary Clinton trails Barack Obama in pledged delegates, the popular vote, and number of states won, she has made it clear that she plans to stay in the race for the nomination. All of which brings me to this logical conclusion: It is time for Barack Obama to drop out.

If Clinton had the good of the Democratic Party in mind, she would have given up her bid the day after the Mississippi primary, which Obama won by 25 points. The delegate math was as dismal for her campaign then as it is now, even after Pennsylvania, and she was facing down a six-week gulf before the next election.

But Hillary Clinton isn’t going to drop out. There simply isn’t a function in her assembly code for throwing in the towel.

Obama, on the other hand, is fully capable of it. And if he’s really serious about representing a new kind of politics, now is the time for him to prove it in the only meaningful way left. Moreover, were he to play it right, dropping out now nearly guarantees that he’ll be elected president in 2012. Here’s the roadmap:

Obama drops out next week, stating that although he could almost certainly win the nomination by fighting it out until the convention in August, he is simply not willing to drag the party through a battle that will cripple its chances against John McCain. He then pledges to help support Sen. Clinton in her bid—with full knowledge that she will not take him up on the offer.

In one stroke, Obama will regain his messiah creds by making the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the party. His followers will be furious. The mere mention of Clinton’s name will provoke unspeakable acts. They will abandon Clinton in numbers...

Interesting and I like it, but Obama is so full of crap that I don’t think he would do this.

Obama and his wife are the black Clintons. M. Obama will not allow Obama to throw in the towel in this fashion.

It guarantees that he'll be branded a quitter and a coward who can't take a punch and can't follow through, and he'll have 4 years of zero legislative accomplishments to back that up.

Didn't John Kerry and John Edwards refuse to contest the Ohio vote in part because they didn't want to tear the country apart and each wanted to set themselves up for 2008? How's that working out?

She'll accept his help just fine. She might even let him wait tables at fund raising dinners.

If I were a betting man I’d say Obama is starting to believe his own propaganda. He’s not going to let this one go at all.

This is all such silliness.

He’s going to win North Carolina by 20 points. If his PR team was doing a good job, they would be announcing that North Carolina will decide the Democratic nomination and Indiana is a place holder.

She has to pick him for VP. If she does, she’ll win. He does not have to pick her for VP. He can pick any woman.

When he does she’ll be enraged beyond belief and would immediately start trying to backstab him behind the scenes.

In which case McCain wins. The goal is not so much a McCain win as to ensure a Democrat loss, and the best scenario for that is Obama winning the nomination.

It’s time to work towards that end.

It doesn’t matter what Obama does, if he isn’t the RAT nominee there will be rioting. There will be rioting in the cities even if Obama voluntarily steps aside. It won’t be believed. It will be believed that he was manipulated.

I don’t think he would step aside. The animosity between him and the Witch of Chapaqua is palpable and he will not do it. He wants the nod just as much as she does. The only difference between them is the skin color (body parts not withstanding ~ besides there is no difference there!).

If I were advising the Democratic Party, I would indeed advise that Obama drop out or be forced out. He is "damaged goods," and he is unelectable. Most Democrats who voted for him did so before they learned about Jeremiah Wright, and before he accepted MoveOn.org's and Michael Moore's endorsements. Like consumers who buy defective goods, they are entitled to a "refund" of their votes.

Of course, since many of Obama's supporters hate Clinton, they would probably sit out the election, and our candidate will win anyway. :-)

God BLESS America, McCain 2008
