Unfazed by the news of federal employees using government credit cards to pay for lingerie, gambling, iPods, Internet dating services, and other questionable items, Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said “the reports on this so-called scandal have opened my eyes to an innovative possibility. The problem isn’t so much that government employees abused their privileges and wasted tax dollars, but that average Americans aren’t similarly enabled.”
“The country is facing hard times in this recession,” Obama asserted. “Some have lost their jobs. Others have lost their homes. This will cut into the spending needed to spur economic recovery. One way to offset this is to issue everyone a government credit card so they can buy what they need. Not only will we be heading off poverty. We’ll also be stimulating the economy.”
Under Obama’s plan, every adult living in the country would be issued a government credit card in exchange for signing a pledge “to buy only what they need.”
A Rasmussen survey showed 62 percent of those polled favored the idea. “It’s about time the government came through with their promise to fulfill my pursuit of happiness,” said poll respondent Bobby Omadawn of Cleveland. “I could be stimulating the economy plenty if I hadn’t lost my credit. This’ll fix that.”
Another 24 percent thought the issuance of cards would entail “unnecessary paperwork.” “Why should I have to hassle with a card?” pondered poll respondent Sharon Steele of New Orleans. “It’s just more ‘red-tape.’ They should just let us take what we need. Like we did during the hurricane.”

In related, but unreported, news, House Democrats passed a bill to tax all transactions on the new cards at 100%.

Obviously satire, but not far from the truth. After all, isn’t B of A giving credit cards to illegals?
