Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child is an axiom that Democratic Assemblywoman Sally Lieber apparently doesn’t recognize. She apparently believes that because spanking “Could Lead to” child abuse, that spanking should be done away with altogether.
Let me ask you this Sally, Should every potential ‘gateway’ activity then be made illegal by our government? Should sugar be made illegal because it gives a child a buzz if too much is taken in, which ‘could then lead’ to a desire to experience more intense highs later on? Should alcohol be outlawed because it ‘could lead to’ a desire to use drugs to experience more euphoria? Should reading about the Civil War in history class be outlawed because it ‘could lead to’ a desire to shoot someone you disagree with politically?
Spanking, or any other legal activity does not ‘lead a person’ to do anything illegal. A personal decision to Ignore the law leads a person to do illegal activities Susan...
Folks like Democratic Assemblywoman Sally Lieber need to stop forcing their extremist liberal views on the rest of America, stop blaming civilly responsible laws for the actions of law-breaking individuals, and stop persecuting those who do obey the law by raising their kids with moral values and socially responsible disciplinary actions. Sally may be fine with raising children by refusing to discipline them with measures that teach accountability and responsibility, but the rest of the world knows from experience that using restraint, and disciplining their children results in responsible well structured individuals who value the law instead of thumbing their noses at it because they know they will never be held responsible for their actions!
