Candy Control Laws Sorely Needed

As more and more schools turn to healthy snack alternatives, a candy black market is emerging. Some students now bring candy-laden backpacks to school to sell to other students for profit.

What’s truly needed to stem the candy tide are more candy-control laws. If we can limit its sale, fewer children will be the victims of cavities, hyper-activity, and parental rage. There are especially dangerous brands of candy, infused with caffeine, that should be banned altogether. We need to offer tax-payer sponsored candy buy-back programs to get dangerous candy off the streets. A 7-day waiting period before children can purchase candy could keep children with prior confectionery infractions from purchasing these harmful treat

where I live there is a plan to do just that in Maine. The BIG government wants to ban the sale of power drinks to minors. Yeah! Good luck!

Candy doesn’t make kids fat, kids with candy for sale do.

Candy 'Control' Laws...didn't she star in several Babes-in-Bondage flicks in the late 1980's?

I used to sell candy at school back when I was a kid. The different school clubs and etc. would create a market demand for M&Ms and etc. and then at the end of the designated candy sale there’d be this market just hungering for a distribution solution. Being a proper capitalist, I invested in candy and (after the designated candy sale was done) I started selling candy to a happy marketplace. In many months I made far more money (and tax free, too) than any of my classmates who toiled away at a fast food joint. The kids who are enterprising enough to sell legal goods should be puled out of the worthless public schools and sent to appropriate private schools where their natural entrepeneurial skills can be better honed and maximized.

If the government would just legalize all candy, then kids wouldn’t get fat selling illegal candy to other kids.

M&M's are an "entry" candy. They lead to more serious candies like Snicker's Bars and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Reese's Peanut Butter cups are the "heroin" of the candy world. We need a total prohibition on this, and several Alphabet federal agencies created pronto.

You should be ashamed of yourself, candy pusher.

I'm not even ashamed of the fact that I never declared my income (which in 1982 was easily better than $1,000 per month during school).

That fact alone should warrant you getting a “meet & greet” with the SWAT team at your house.

I suspect gang involvement in our local candy sales. Some of the wealthier kids are even getting into exotics...like Zero bars, and Pepsin gum.

I tried to start a business selling celery and carrots sticks for school fund raisers. I even worked up a plan to have intercity kids bussed to the suburbs evening to sell door to door at night.I would sell the kids the already prepaider bags for only $4 a bag and then they would sell them for $7 for a bag. Not only would could they earn money to goto college but it would teach them economics and keep them off the streets at night. I thought something was up when the city told be I could not use the back of my van to cut vegetables. But I knew it was a conspiracy when the city banned the sell of small baggies.

Slight disagreement. Kids who don’t get exercise get fat. In the meantime, I overheard two skinny kids remark that they were dieting. All of this talk about kids getting fat has made the kids paranoid, and disrespectful towards those kids/adults who are overweight. I’ll take a kid who needs to lose 5-10 pounds over a kid who thinks they are fat but looks like a starvation victim.
