Let's try to Stop John McCain from getting the GOP nomination (vanity)

Posted on 01/29/2008 10:25:56 PM PST by Sun

It's far from over!

The candidate needs 1,191 delegates to win, and McCain has 97 and Romney has 74, and who knows how many candidates Huckabee will have after all is said and done.

Here's my letter to the editor, which I sent to a couple of newspapers in my area:

"Dear Editor:

While John McCain is a war hero, and I feel a better candidate than any of the Democrat candidates, I cannot vote for him on Super Tuesday.

Here are a few reasons why:

Senator McCain supports human embyronic stem cell research, and the ICC (where the International Criminal Court would be judging Americans). He also was part of the gang of 14, which has stopped President Bush's judicial nominess for circuit courts, etc. from going to the floor for an up or down vote.

I heard a couple of McCain's colleagues say on the radio that he went against the leadership, when the Republicans had the majority, including the culture issues.

John McCain is also the senator that liberal Democrats come to when they want a senator from the Republican side of the aisle. For instance: McCain/Feingold (limits free speech); McCain/Kennedy (amnesty); McCain/Lieberman (50 cents per gallon gas tax increase).

Senator McCain's pro-illegal immigration stance would hurt our national security, as border security is national security. Known terrorists have been caught crossing our borders."

Maybe you'll join me and write a letter to the editor of your own.

Romney is a mormon and the mormon cult has a long history of discrimination.”

Yes

The mormons have a history and doctrine of racism against black Americans

Whenever Romney has been asked if he would have women and minorities in the White House and in his Administration he has never said yes or no but has given his usual convoluted type of lecture...and danced around the question...

It is a serious concern...does he plan to discriminate against minorities due to the long practice of his organization ???

Are there any blacks in leadership in his campaign ????

If McCain gets it, it’s all over. He has no chance of winning against either Hillary or Obama. Romney does, but not McCain; and certainly not Huckabee.

Duncan Hunter was the most conservative candidate, and it broke my heart that he dropped out. Now my goal is to vote in the primaries for the best candidate remaining, and get some others to do the same.

I have to disagree Sun. I vote the Conservative line, not the party line. I won't be voting for any of the GOP candidates as none of them are Conservative. The "vote the best candidate" thinking is precisely what has caused the GOP to have the current crop of candidates who have either held or do hold positions contrary to Conservatism. Settling for anything less than Conservatism only begets Socialism.

Despite his flaws, Paul is by far the most conservative in the field.

You can't have degrees of Conservatism . That's tantamount to saying someone can be only a little pregnant. Either a person is Conservative or is not Conservative. Paul agrees with the Socialist Democrats for a withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. That is hardly the position of a Conservative.

None of the alternatives, except Hillary are as bad as McCain. I’ll vote for Obama first.

Neither is better than the other. Both swim in the same cesspool of Socialism.

Only Romney can defeat McCain. If you want to see McCain as our nominee, then by all means vote for someone other than Romney.

As governor, did Romney push for a marriage amendment in Massachusetts? Yes. Did he veto in-state tuition for illegals? Yes. Did he oppose driver’s licenses and benefits for illegals? Yes.

McCain’s the RINO.

I agree. What is wrong with the GOP voters? Part of it is infiltration and voter fraud - but not all of it.

The Democrats gave the GOP a gift by nominating Kerry. Is the GOP now returning the favor by choosing McCain to assure Hillary's win? If McCain wins, it means we no longer have two parties but one.

I will never vote for McCain because of his questionable mental health and his vote against the Cornyn amendment.

Regardless of which of these Bozos gets elected, FR is going to be a busy place. If McCain is elected, we’re going to be fighting against amnesty, global warming nonsense, liberal judges, tax increases, further encroachments on our rights, etc. If it’s Romney, we’ll be fighting against RomneyCare, federal corporate bailouts, and any number of big government nanny-state programs. If it’s Huckabee all of the above applies. If it’s Paul we’ll be fighting for our lives.

If it’s Clinton or Obama, well, we’ll be fighting against all of the above, fighting for our lives, and fighting against a total Marxist takeover.

Yes—the elites in the GOP have managed to disenfranchise conservative Republicans.

It’s too late to get what I or you ‘want’, nana. The choice now is McCain or Romney, face that reality please. Pretending it’s other wise won’t do any of us any good, well, except John McCain, and I can’t believe that’s what you want.

Is this all about Mormon bigotry with you, nana? I find that hard to believe. You’d be surprised at the many good Mormon patriots on FR, some who you respect a lot. Mormons make good neighbors, I’ve been lucky enough to have them as some. I’m Baptist, but the bigotry shown by Huckabee and his supporters is as un American as it gets. <

It is never too late to hold onto Conservative principles. The problem is the GOP has not been facing reality. It is a fact Conservatism works when implemented. Duncan Hunter taught us that valuable lesson by winning in a heavily Democrat district. That lesson apparently has been quickly lost to at least some on this thread. The self defeating rational becomes to settle for someone who appears to be Conservative. At least that way those who do so can fool themselves into believing they are doing what's right when in fact they are only getting more of what they are trying to prevent.

The reality is Conservatives at some point, and that time is now, must draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough by remaining steadfast to Conservative principles. There is nothing bigoted about staying true to one's beliefs while those around you sacrifice their principles. Unfortunately that is becoming more prevalent with Freepers.

Romney is far more conservative that McCain. There is not one positive thing about McCain - the most liberal of the candidates who voted against the Cornyn amendment. McCain is no different from Hillary except that Hillary is in better health. McCain recent lies about Romney showed his lack of ethics, he has lied about being pro life, etc.

I think a win in Florida hardly makes McCain the winner. I read an interesting projection which indicated that in the next few weeks, the three remaining candidates will basically have about the same number of delegates. McCain is expected to win in certain midwestern states, Romney in western states, and Huckabee in several southern states (although he will be limited because these states don’t have “winner take all” provisions). Interesting situation.

BUt in any case, it’s too soon to annoint McCain, although that’s what the press is trying to do because they love him for having stabbed Bush in the back a couple of times.

Romney is a saint compared to McCain.

Both have flip flopped on issues. They are cut from the same cloth.

We got to play around with our ‘ideal’ candidate for a year, the time now is for pragmatism and the reality of the lesser of the evils.

The lesser of two evils mentality only begets more evil. It won't end until people stand up to evil.

While McCain has a solid lengthy record of voting FOR pro-life Bills

Romney has pushed abortion since before 1970 and before Roe V Wade

and has even argued with Teddy Kennedy in order to

prove he was more of an abortion push than liberal Ted

While he was Gov of Mass, Romney signed

a Universal health care package which included $50 abortions

At the time Romney vetoed sevaral items out of the package

and had the option of also vetoing the $50 abortion payment,

But he chose to leave it in
