Let's try to Stop John McCain from getting the GOP nomination (vanity)

It's far from over!

The candidate needs 1,191 delegates to win, and McCain has 97 and Romney has 74, and who knows how many candidates Huckabee will have after all is said and done.

Here's my letter to the editor, which I sent to a couple of newspapers in my area:

"Dear Editor:

While John McCain is a war hero, and I feel a better candidate than any of the Democrat candidates, I cannot vote for him on Super Tuesday.

Here are a few reasons why:

Senator McCain supports human embyronic stem cell research, and the ICC (where the International Criminal Court would be judging Americans). He also was part of the gang of 14, which has stopped President Bush's judicial nominess for circuit courts, etc. from going to the floor for an up or down vote.

I heard a couple of McCain's colleagues say on the radio that he went against the leadership, when the Republicans had the majority, including the culture issues.

John McCain is also the senator that liberal Democrats come to when they want a senator from the Republican side of the aisle. For instance: McCain/Feingold (limits free speech); McCain/Kennedy (amnesty); McCain/Lieberman (50 cents per gallon gas tax increase).

Senator McCain's pro-illegal immigration stance would hurt our national security, as border security is national security. Known terrorists have been caught crossing our borders."

Maybe you'll join me and write a letter to the editor of your own.

I’ve already dug a hole in the backhills and will be hunkering down for the next 4 years. Conservatism has died. This is too damn depressing.

Stopping McCain is great. The problem is the alternatives.

I’m telling you. The bulk of Conservative support has died off.

Just compare how a liberal McGovern did against a milquetoast Nixon in 1972....37%

Then look at how much more support both Gore and Kerry got....48.4% and 48.4% respectively

I was born in 1957 and nearly all older folks from my parents and older were social conservatives even if yeller dog/dixiecrats

Those Dixiecrats formed what became the solid South for the GOP starting late 60s.

Meanwhile, most of the rest of the country except Indiana and a handful of mountain states have veered left to far left.

Look at the stats on how the post Boomers vote.

I can’t see how you can ascertain that demographics favor a serious conservative. As for GOP primary voters...the proof is in the pudding. They eschewed Duncan, Tanc, Fred and maybe even Romney or Huckie and are going for Mercuric McCain. They had several reasonable conservatives across the board and rejected them.

I’m 50, most folks I know under 45 here in Nashville (not Berkeley) are social moderates and can either way.

In my demographic.....white protestant southern male with family...i’d wager 85% are GOP but we’re dying off now.

In the commercials Mccain ran in FL, he mentioned his military and POW background..

It worked for him there, and he’ll try it in other states...

They just think your exposure of his betrayal of his fellow POW’s

is like the “attack” on Kerry...

While the swift boat guys were telling the truth and

the story of McCain and his traitious activity is also true..

all patriotic American conservatives hear, is rhetoric equal to the Code Pinks...

If you can find another way to do it..

McCain-Fiengold means nothing to most people..

they dont follow the working of congress...

And the gang of 14 ???

they have their own gang warfare in the next street..

And then there’s all the charges of racist and anti-immigration,

and bigot that is thrown against those of us who are fighting

against illegal alien invasion

McCain is a hero...helping the helples, the down-trodden

those who hide in the shadows because AuntB hates them

And on and on infinitum

Is this all about Mormon bigotry with you, nana? I find that hard to believe. You’d be surprised at the many good Mormon patriots on FR, some who you respect a lot. Mormons make good neighbors, I’ve been lucky enough to have them as some. I’m Baptist, but the bigotry shown by Huckabee and his supporters is as un American as it gets.

There’s harmless Ron Paul who is a sweet man and an OB/GYN and never killed anyone

And then there’s Mike Huckabee, again a man who hasnt condone killing babies

..but now you've thrown down the gauntlet to Nana, who I also respect.... Why are you guilt tripping her for your guy, Romney.

You did this to me the other day, and you got my response.

It would have been helpful if your candidate Hunter, even after dropping out, had not come out publicly against Romney and gone off the deep edge to endorse Huckabee.

All he did was help McCain and hurt Romney. Is Huckabee who you plan to vote for?
