This statement should shock every American to their very core. It is theocracy, pure and simple.
To those evangelical Christians supporting Huckabee, ask yourself this: What if Hillary or Obama said this line while speaking in a left-of-center church? Or Mitt said it to an LDS ward? Rudy to a Catholic assembly, or a Muslim congressman to a mosque? How would you feel if a presidential candidate was promising to revise the Constitution — the foundational legal document of this nation — to comply with the theological dictates of Rome, Salt Lake City or Mecca?
I'm confident you're revolted even considering those possibilities. But I hope you feel far more revulsion when you realize that a self-proclaimed Christian is using the name of Christ to force this same Taliban-style politics upon a free nation. America was founded in part to ensure freedom of religion. And speaking as an evangelical who attends a Baptist church, I'll be damned if I'm going to let any Baptist preacher take that freedom away from me or my fellow Americans.
As of today, if Huckabee is the Republican nominee, I will not support him. I'll support the Constitution instead.

He called a bunch of fiscal conservative Republicans who opposed his taxhikes “Shiites”.
If you’re going to bash him, and there is good cause, at least put the bash in an honest context. Many don’t have issues with that particular amendment.
Incorrect. We have a strong Judeo/Christian tradition. We do not have an established religion. The 1st Amendment protects us from having an established religion.
The more I hear and read from Huckabee, the more he scares me.

WARREN, Mich. — Huckabee’s closing argument to voters here this evening featured a few new stories and two prolonged sections on illegal immigration and Christian values.
These two topics usually feature prominently in Huckabee’s stump speech, but last night he got specific, promising to build a border fence within 18 months if elected and elaborating on his belief that the constitution needs to be amended.
“[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it’s a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that’s what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards,” Huckabee said, referring to the need for a constitutional human life amendment and an amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.
Huckabee often refers to the need to amend the constitution on these grounds, but he has never so specifically called for the Constitution to be brought within “God’s standards,” which are themselves debated amongst religious scholars. As a closing statement he asked the room of nearly 500 supporters to “pray and then work hard, and in that order,” to help him secure a victory in Tuesday’s GOP primary.
Tomorrow Huckabee will visit two polling places in the morning before taking off for South Carolina where he will watch Michigan’s returns come in.

Any society that has degenerated to the point where these abominations are accepted, cannot be saved by any amendment to any constitution.

It’s not so much that he’s for the marriage or human life amendments- many fine people are in favor of them. It’s Huckabee’s tone, his self-satisfied smugness that truly bother me.

As an evangelical Christian, I refuse to vote for a leader that seeks to sublimate the U.S. Constitution to his or her particular religious views. Our forbears fled Europe for Freedom of Religion and I intend to fight tooth and nail for that same right.
Furthermore, I don't appreciate a preacher using the name of my Savior to try to amass political power.
Well, when I think about it, that makes sense. Constitutional amendments will not save us from depravity.
