No matter who becomes the next president of the United States, the American people have already won a great victory with the total disintegration of the once all-powerful religious right.
Starting in 1979, when Jerry Falwell founded the Moral Majority, Christian conservatives have been the most powerful voting bloc in the Republican Party.
(snip)
Today, the religious right has splintered into as many different factions as O.J. Simpson has alibis. Unable to find one candidate who fits the bill of being both true-blue on the issues and electable, America's ayatollahs have divided their loyalties. Indeed, in some cases, they've even declared war against each other.
The National Right to Life Committee has endorsed Fred Thompson, even though he opposes a constitutional amendment to ban Roe v. Wade and admits he only goes to church when visiting his mother while James Dobson says he's not even sure Thompson qualifies as a Christian. Sam Brownback has endorsed John McCain, who once called Jerry Falwell an "agent of intolerance." And Bob Jones III and Moral Majority co-founder Paul Weyrich have even endorsed a Mormon, because they think that Romney is the only one who can beat Hilary.
And, in one of the most bizarre pairings in politics, Pat Robertson, who blamed gays for Sept. 11 and prayed for a meteor to strike Disney World's gay pride parade, has endorsed Rudy Giuliani perhaps because he's counting on Giuliani to assassinate Hugo Chavez. James Dobson has said he will never vote for Giuliani, even if it means staying home. But the fact remains that, with Robertson's help, the Republican Party could very well nominate for president a candidate who is twice-divorced, thrice-married, pro-choice, pro-gay rights and an occasional cross-dresser.

"While in the long term, some moderate Republicans might welcome relief from having to genuflect in front of the pro-life movement and Terri Schiavo, the short-term political impact for the Republican Party is a disaster. Christian conservatives probably won't vote for a Democrat. They're more likely just to stay home. But the result is the same: Overnight, Republicans have lost their biggest and most loyal bloc of support."
Those who subscribe to the myth that Christian Conservatives are tunnel-visioned, limitting our core issues only to abortion, same-sex marriage, school prayers, and embryonic stem cell research have obviously underestimated our fervor. There isn't a single Christian Conservative out there who isn't also concerned about threats on gun rights, illegal immigration, border security, WOT, Iraq, Iran, health care, lower taxes, less gov't. interference, etc... Bottom line, Christian Conservatives are just as fiscally conservative in our beliefs as anyone in the GOP. Pat Robertson may have prostituted himself and compromised his Christian values, but the majority of Christian Conservative votes are still out there to be earned by the candidates. How else would you explain the Mike cHuckabee phenomenon in Iowa? I would characterize the Christian Conservative votes in this election thus far as "the lost flock", whereby many of the disillusioned Christian Conservatives are running to cHuckabee because they're eager for a shepherd, whilst the majority are still holding our prayers and awaiting a GOP savior. Let's get to the truth, cHuckabee is a pro-life liberal who hasn't seen a tax increase he doesn't like and is for amnesty. Even as his polls number surge, cHuckabee has no chance because he doesn't have the full support of the Christian Conservatives.
I shall not hijack my own thread (if that's even possible) as I've been fingered out with the last one ;-o. But just let me sneak it in that I earnestly believe Duncan Hunter is the only candidate out there who meets all the qualities and criterias the Christian Conservatives are yearning for.
The liberals, RINO’s and Ted Kennedy wing of the Republican Party want us to believe that the Christian Conservative movement is dead. They’re the ones who are dead wrong! Christian Conservatives are still out there yearning for a GOP savior and true conservative. They just havent’ heard about Duncan Hunter yet. Let’s get out there and tell them that Mike cHuckabee is a false prophet!
I haven’t made my mind up yet, but why is Huckabee a false prophet??!!..seems like a good conservative Christian to me.
Congressman Duncan Hunter is stuck at 1% in those polls that even have him listed. I see Mr. Hunter and Mr. Tancredo dropping out soon. Who will you support then?
Glad you asked:
Mike Huckabee disses Americans, Mexicans, promotes illegal immigration

Christians Need To Beware Of Mike Huckabee

While Gov. of Arkansas, Huckabee was AGAINST proving citizenship in
order to register to vote. He called those who were in favor of this
racists..

Huckabee fought hard to kill an Arkansas bill which would have cut off
social services for illegal aliens. Huckabee called the bill,
anti-Christian and un-American...

You should really study post 5...Huckster is borderline evil
We all love Hunter and Tancredo but it’s 45 days from Iowa and they are dead in the water......worthy or not
My list:
Thompson....not perfect granted...needs to really push and get aggressive
Romney.....second best...probably a decent man
McCain....slightly less PC than Rudy...but unstable
Last....Rudy....oh well....Nelson Rockefeller with more attitude and the same sex drive
the rest....are outta the race
I would vote for Rudy over Huckabee but they both suck
I am not sure Huckabee is a false prophet. He believes what he believes but he is switching gears now just like the rest of them. I would vote for Bush over Huckabee if Bush could run again. But then I would vote for Bush over any in the top-tier. I think people are missing what we are trying to do here. We are trying to get a conservative elected, that will be a better President than Bush.
But what everyone seems to be trying to do is find a candidate who can beat Hillary. Yet, in most of the polls, which everyone seems to takes such great stock in; Hillary is beating them all and in many cases so is Obama. So that argument is a non-starter. I find Hillary very vulnerable and if we nominate a candidate that the base will get out and vote for, Hillary is toast. I just don’t see that in the top-tier. So you’re right we need to get Hunters name out there for public consumption.
wnd blames it on the electorate, not on the ones running to be elected.
Look what he did to the republican party of arkansas. He seems to be a pro-life liberal.
bttt Duncan Hunter
The reason Huckabee is rising in the polls is because he is a totally manufactured phenomenem by the media. At first, he was languishing down in the second tier and Rudy was touting his strategy of not needing the religious right’s votes because he was going to win with the moderates & cross-over dems.
THEN - it became obvious that Rudy’s people did some internal polling and figured out - THEY COULDN’T win without the support of the right - so they started courting those votes & getting Pat Robertson’s endorsement.
Here’s where Huckabee comes in - the powers that be - the ones that want Rudy to be our nominee - have decided that Huckabee is the moderate that can be packaged to appeal to the religious right. He’s a pastor, etc. That’s when they started to showcase him and do polling that skews in his favor to show him rising in the polls. They started increasing stories about him & how he is such a religious man,...blah, blah, blah......
The whole plan culminates when Rudy picks Huckabee to be his VP running mate & therefore clinches the support of the religious right.
It is completely manufactured & I will not fall for it! I know several good church-going Christians that have fallen for it & are supporting Huckabee. When I point out his support for illegals, nanny-state policies and love for taxation - they look at me like a deer in the headlights. They are not hearing this stuff on the media.
The plan is completely evil & I have already decided that if the ticket is Giuliani/Huckabee - I will be leaving the Republican Party for good.
Just because the big names are infected with Hillary Fear, that by no means is an indicator how most faith \values voters will go.
Tony Perkins' recent article tells me that FRC and Dr. Dobson may be the only group left which is not stricken with insanity...
We don’t have to excerpt WND, do we?
Regardless, Bill Press is a leftwing lunatic.
Wow, thanks for the info, you really opened my eyes..
Well, anybody but her thighness. Your leaning towards whom?
Thanks FRiend,
This is why FR is such a good place to exchange ideas, 2ndDivisionVet opened my eyes.
It looks like Huckabee is a big time hypocrite.
