Washington, D.C. Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) criticized fellow GOP contenders Thompson and Romney after they released position papers on illegal immigration apparently discovering only just recently the policy he has been advocating for years.
Both the Romney and Thompson plans talk tough on border security and cracking down on illegal immigration, but the plans beg the question as to why their records dont reflect such rhetoric.
Rep. Hunter explained, I can tell you that my proposals to significantly increase and strengthen deportations, penalties, interior and border enforcement, and to curtail the incentives for illegal aliens generally had few vocal allies in the US Senate Mr. Thompson certainly was not among them.
He continued, As for Mr. Romney, the fact that many cities in Massachusetts were, and remain, protected sanctuaries for illegal aliens, makes one wonder if this is just one more of the those I saw the light moments.
While Congressman Hunter is pleased to see the GOP candidates move towards the positions he has been advocating for decades, he stated, watching Senator Thompson, Governor Romney, Mayor Giuliani and now even Governor Huckabee attempting to outflank one another on this issue is, frankly, amusing; after long careers where the problem was either ignored, or in some cases, exacerbated.
Rep. Hunter authored and shepherded legislation that built a two-layer border fence outside of San Diego leading to a 53% drop in crime and 90% decrease in drug trafficking along that corridor. Hunters message of a stronger national defense, tighter border security, and fair trade with China is resonating with voters across the nation.

THE ONLY INDICATOR OF FUTURE BEHAVIOR IS PAST BEHAVIOR.
I know it Kevmo, but how else can you interpret it especially in light of the fact that they torpedoed campaigns of some very conservative politicians in the last elections?
And of course I can’t think of any of their names right off the top of my head now, but the one that comes to mind is the fellow that ran against Spector.
bump
Actually, Kevmo, it is fun. Maybe not ‘having a beer at the pub’ fun, but it is a pleasure to be so convinced of a candidates bona fides for a change.
I suggest you study what the term means before attempting to characterize my comment as intellectual dishonesty.
The one example that keeps burning for me is Tom McClintock. We should be seeing a cascade of mea culpa posts from the freepers who supported aRINOld, but we don’t. Many of those same freepers push tootyfruityrudy today. They won’t and can’t learn the lesson. Probably because they agree with rootytooty.
“And where was Duncan for the Presidents visit? It is his area as representative burning to the ground isn’t it?”
I’m new here and I’m more up on things than that...
BLOAT!
ANOTHER failure of his campaign team. Duncan should have been ONSTAGE with Bush, not Fienswine.
Perhaps Hunter does not even contemplate using a tragedy to get face time. HE’s pretty damn busy.
Besides, Hunter was already back at work soon after.
Feinstein talks while Hunter gets to work cutting through the bureaucratic red tape.
It’s called politics and running for President of the United States. Hunter is doing that, right?
“Perhaps Hunter does not even contemplate using a tragedy to get face time. HEs pretty damn busy.”
I’d put my life savings on that one.
Tom is a perfect example. I should have thought of him since I’ve mentioned Schwartzenwhosit twice on this thread.
I guess we need to come up with a different label for folks like Duncan and us because the definition of conservative is being changed.
It would be nice of Hunter (and vice versa) to have a good word put in for Tom Tancredo on this, too, as a gentlemanly comment. Those guys are BOTH the real deal. The rest are phonies as far as I am concerned and I dont trust them with their new “conversions”.
I think so. But you are gonna see his campaign hit high gear now (after the fires, anyway)
I’ve not heard them criticize one another, so that tells me something.
Neither issue is going to be a watershed for 2008.
The big issue for the GOP primaries is, which conservative can beat Rudy Giuliani? Which conservative has the best chance to take down the liberal Rockefeller Republican?
Without a doubt, thats Fred!
Both are examples of career politicians. The Founders believed in citizen legislators. Serve your country for a short period of time and then head back to private life. Thats exactly what Fred Thompson did. Fred served America and Tennessee for 8 years and headed back to his private life.
Your guy Ron Paul has been in the House for 10 terms, or 20 years. Another career politician, feeding off the taxpayers, at the government trough.
The difference between Duncan Hunter and Paul is, Hunter is a staunch supporter of the WOT. Ron Paul is a surrender monkey!
Allrighty then. Here’s a sandbox for you.

Thompson has accomplished something once thought impossiblehe now has higher negative ratings among Republican Primary Voters than McCain. Thirty-eight percent (38%) of those likely to vote in New Hampshires primary have an unfavorable opinion of the former Tennessee Senator.
