Florida Congressmen Accuse Democratic National Committee of Racism [Satire]

Senator Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) and Representative Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) are suing the Democratic National Committee (DNC) over the Committee's pledge not to seat Florida delegates at the party's presidential nominating convention after the Florida moved the state’s presidential primary to January 29, 2008.

"For the DNC to say the fourth largest contingent of Democrats in the nation that their votes will not matter in next year's presidential primary is not only shocking and ironic, but we believe is illegal,” said Hastings. “This harkens back to the days when the Ku Klux Klan ran the Democratic Party in the south.”

Howard Dean, Chairman of the DNC dismissed the allegations as “the ranting of political hacks,” pointing out that Hastings was impeached and removed from a judgeship for corruption and perjury in 1989. “Hastings is an adjudicated liar,” Dean charged. “Besides, Florida’s Democratic voters are proven idiots. In the 2000 presidential election many showed they were incompetent to fill out a ballot by erroneously voting for Pat Buchanan instead of Al Gore. Add the fact that they also elected a man discharged from a judgeship for corruption and I think you’d have to agree that there are plenty of good reasons for not counting their votes in this nonconforming primary.”
