Bush: All religions pray to 'same God'
WorldNetdaily.com ^ | October 7, 2007

President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" – an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.

Bush made the statement Friday in an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi.

Al Arabiya is Al Jazeerah's top competitor in the Mideast.

As the president and Nakouzi walked from the Oval Office to the Map Room in the White House residence, Nazouki asked, "But I want to tell you – and I hope this doesn't bother you at all – that in the Islamic world they think that President Bush is an enemy of Islam – that he wants to destroy their religion, what they believe in. Is that in any way true, Mr. President?"

"No, it's not," said Bush. "I've heard that, and it just shows [sic] to show a couple of things: One, that the radicals have done a good job of propagandizing. In other words, they've spread the word that this really isn't peaceful people versus radical people or terrorists, this is really about the America not liking Islam.

"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that – we had a person blow up our – blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.

... so subtle that it's not experienced as intervention.

Okay, if you think so, but a lot of other people have direct experiences that tell different. And the Bible indicates that God is involved in all things, no matter what they are.

So, I'll finally break down and give one example of one thing that I've pretty much stayed away from saying very much about, most of my life.

How about having two angels come down and grab a hold of you (as a kid) and then one on each side of you, holding your hands, walking you back home again. Would that qualify as one such "intervention". :-)

Well, that's my direct experience, although I was a bit small at the time. I'll make this quick and short and to the point (as much as I can). I was about five years old and wandered out of the house, across two very busy thoroughfares, going into downtown Houston (many years back). My mother didn't know it and when she noticed me gone was quite beside herself, and despairing as to where I was. She looked all around and also prayed, very urgently (as you can imagine in those circumstances), but she was always inclined to pray to God a lot, anyway, every single day.

And as she was out front of the house, on the sidewalk, she saw two tall men with a little boy, walking towards her direction (on the sidewalk, in front of the house) from several blocks away. As they got closer, she could see that it was me. I was holding each of their hands, one on my left and one on my right, looking up and smiling at them, as she was always wont to tell me all the time... (LOL!). And she never let me forget it. She always would tell and retell that to me.

When they arrived to where she was, they never said a thing, just handed me off to her. She bent down to grab me and hug me and scold me somewhat, and then raised back up to thank them. And they were not there any more. They were gone, instantly, as she was only down and back up in a instant (a matter of seconds).

It was the middle of the day, in broad daylight, out on the sidewalk and nowhere to go. They had just disappeared. And that was that. In all of that, they never said a word and never asked if I belonged to her and simply brought me back -- that's all.

So, I can say, that at least I have had the hands of angels in my hands -- at leat one time, when I was a small boy. Maybe one of these days I'll find out who those two angels were, who were sent by a God was is very active and intervening in this world, as He always has.

Star Traveler

As I understand the word “Heresy”,in regards to a Christian,

To deny John 3:16 fits the mold,,,

moozzi does not worship JESUS AS GOD !!

The POTUS denied his Christianity by his own words...

I’ve seen no “lying through his political teeth” clause in the Bible...

Thanks for sharing that. I’ll just cut the chase here, though. I don’t believe it.

I know that’s terribly blunt, but there you go.

FWIW, a second testimony here to affirm StarTraveler’s post to you.

Through faith in Christ, today, since the Pentecost after the resurrection, and until the removal of the Holy Spirit, ..God, the Holy Spirit indwells each and every believer, (discernible from fellowship). God, the Holy Spirit in our body, provides a temple for the indwelling of the Son and the Son is one with the Father.

Not only does He intervene in the life of every believer in fellowship with Him, but there are many reports of His actions which are very vivid. For example, think about Saul on the road to Damascus.

There are also doctrines in Scripture associated with predestination, where He has not only elected believers, but also where He has provided for logistical predestination in each of our lives.

The real challenge is simple to remain in fellowship with Him in all things, so that we might be in the right place at the right time to perform His Will.

Paul is an outstanding example of this. Paul wanted to think of himself as an apostle to Jerusalem, probably because in his past worldly thinking he had devoted so much of his mind and heart to being a Pharisee.

God, though, had other plans. At nearly every opportunity in his journeys, Paul seeks to return to Jerusalem so he might witness to Jews, but God had Paul positioned as the sole Roman citizen who had seen Christ and selected with the gift of apostleship to be an apostle to Rome.

Paul constantly struggled to avoid going where God had planned for him to go, but it really was to no avail. Storms at sea, biten by a posionous viper, imprisonment, numerous impediments to any route he would take, nevertheless it had been predetermined in his logistics where he would go so that ultimately he would give his testimony through faith in Christ to the Roman nation.

He respects not our person, but instead has established a divine institution of volition, which if we exercise through His Plan, may live freely under legitimate authority.

He has predestined crowns for us in heaven, to be administered by the Son as rewards to us for our good works. When we rebel from Him, there might still be a crown un heaven, which simply remains on the shelf as an eternal memorial of our foolishness in rebelling from His Plan and Will. No matter what the sin, though, His love for us never diminishes, as it is eternal and He knew our sins from eternity past prior to Christ paying for them on the Cross.

Many miracles probably go unnoticed by us daily, in our scarred thinking, believing in a worldly system rather than His Word.

He also has volition, known as His Sovereignty.

Sometimes this place is just so wacko.

The man is president. I really don't care about his religious beliefs anymore than I care about the Pope's favorite baseball team.

I want the president to shrink the size and influence of the federal government and kill those who want to kill me and my fellow citizens.

I don't ask for much more. For those keeping score, Bush gets a D on the first and a B on the second. (The only thing that keeps him from an F on the first is that I know what the other side is capable of.)

I don’t see any “exception” — either — when someone does accept Jesus Christ, as their personal savior and declares that to be so. Now, he has not denied his own personal faith, but I would say that he’s lying to the Muzzies...

Now, while lying is not something that one should do, that is not going to make an “exception” on his salvation in Jesus Christ as his personal savior, as he has already stated.

To say *any more* about that (more authoritatively than what one has already spoken in giving his own personal testimony to that effect) is to have “the mind of God” and to know as much as God knows about “one’s heart” —and none of us have that capability.

So, I’ll go on the basis of him having given his own personal testimony and statement about being saved and that it is a saving faith with Jesus Christ as his own personal savior — at the same time he’s lying to the Muzzies.

If you hear from God on the matter of this person’s “heart” — then feel free to tell us...

Star Traveler

I am not one to judge another’s belief, however, I do believe what President Bush was trying to convey is that there is only one God and we all pray to that one God, however we - in our limited early bodies and vision - perceive Him. The limitation of the vision is in man, not God. That does not deny Bush’s Christian faith.

Well, “of course not” — but I sorta knew that before I said all that. It was evident from what you were saying before...

All it shows is if someone is not inclined to believe these things that do happen, then it doesn’t matter if God Himself comes down and talks personally to people, certain ones won’t believe Him either... LOL!

There may be some tough options for a believer in fellowship with God through faith in Christ to respond to these types of situations.

For example, you know from the evidence presented, that there do exist those who reject the Son, who intend to deceive, kill, and subjugate every notion of Christ as best they are able, including deceptive practices to maneuver to cause more evil.

Likewise, we also know we are never to deny God, His Plan, and His Will, so denial of the Son is succumbing to temptation to any other sort of appeal rather than by God’s Plan.

We know not to throw pearls before swine, but likewise have the Great Commission to spread the good news of what He has provided.

IMHO, I would place more emphasis on the volition of each and every man to actually be able to come to God on His terms, though faith in Christ, as a prerequisite in my thinking whenever I addressed such an Adversary. That relationship between each and every man, through faith in Christ is more powerful than any other kingdom or relationship between any created beings, including the angels themselves.

I guess rather than devoting to much thought on what he really means, I have my hands full remaining in fellowship with God through faith in Christ, so that I might be able to respond properly to whatever testing or opportunity may arise in the life He has already planned for myself, and not just me, but Christ in me that I might fulfill His intentions fully.

He’s certainly more than capable of lying through his “political teeth” about any game plan. As for as the “enemy” is concerned; I’m not sure, given some of his recent actions, who he considers to be the enemy. Perhaps the enemy, according to him, is anyone who opposes his plans for changing the demographics of this country.

I always thought that "politician" and "liar" were the same word... LOL! I don't know how anyone can actually be a good politician (i.e. run for any kind of major political office) and not be a good liar.

As for as the “enemy” is concerned; I’m not sure, given some of his recent actions, who he considers to be the enemy. Perhaps the enemy, according to him, is anyone who opposes his plans for changing the demographics of this country.

Well, he, and a bunch of Republicans, along with some Democrats -- they all seemed to join forces there. And then, there was a lot of opposition from Democrats and Republicans, too -- enough to derail that last legislative boondoggle.

I have not idea how his thinking works on this issue. It seems pretty whacked to me. But, as far as the Muslim terrorists are concerned, at least he stepped up to the plate, big time, and went after them. I don't think we could have done any less and still expected to survive.

He's a "mixed bag" for sure...

~~~HIS WORDS~~~
Exodus 20:2–17
2 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;
3 you shall have no other gods before me.
4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,
6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.
8 Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.
9 For six days you shall labour and do all your work.
10 But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns.
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and consecrated it.
12 Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
13 You shall not murder.
14 You shall not commit adultery.
15 You shall not steal.
16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
17 You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.
Funny thing about testimonials. Those with faith, read and rejoice. Those without, simply doubt.
I’m joyful when I read your testimony.
I once had an exposure to one of a fallen nature. We got into a fistocuffs and I damn near had my head bashed in. I couldn’t believe it, but there was no denying the physical events to me and the perceptions we are given through faith in Him. When I simply appealed for it to be gone, through faith in Christ, scared sh*tless, albeit just a little bit of faith, it disappeared hastily while knocking over objects to get away.
I could care less if others don’t believe it,...they weren’t the ones about to get thumped.
Lots of other angel stories since, but most now from the spiritual domain.
IMHO, what most believers don’t realize is that we today through faith in Christ have more power available to us as believers than in any time in human history and perhaps in eternity future, because today we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The task is to remain in fellowship with Him in all things and let His Will prevail.
One of the reasons those who oppose Christ seek to reduce faith in Him to a comparative religion, is that if they can’t keep believers from having faith, then keep them thinking they really aren’t to exercise that faith in all things, so as not to offend. That reduces the spiritual opposition to their intentions in the spiritual domain.
They say we are Marines, 24/7. Even moreso, we are believers through faith in Christ 24/7, for now and all eternity. Thank You Lord!
At first I too thought he stepped up to the plate. But as time passed and more and more soldiers died and I became more familiar with the "rules of engagement" and I saw more and more military charged unjustly, I began to wonder what's up with him. These troops deserve a lot better than what he's given them.
He seems very eager to please and not offend everyone but Americans. And sometimes this costs Americans big time.
That's why I have my opinion of Bush.
Star Traveler, I have not forgotten that.
But I also believe that to only live by what you said, creates apathy and that is very dangerous. I believe in making a difference and not sitting by and waiting for God to handle and take care of everything. God gave me reason, a brain and the ability to do my part in my life.
I pray for God's will daily, but I also pray that our troops are safe and the enemy destroyed.
We got into a fistocuffs and I damn near had my head bashed in.
Well, that reminded me of one situation that was very, very remarkable for me.
As I say, God does send His angels to do His bidding, all the time, all over this world. And, unseen to us, there are angels all around us. We don't always see them. They don't "live" among us or work with us, or have long conversations with us (if they say anything at all) or so on, like is popularized in the movies. No, they're just here to do, very specifically God's exact and precise bidding, which is done fully according to His will and full foreknowledge of all things that happen or will happen.
What your comments reminded me of (and I had forgotten), was the time I worked at a Mission. It was a place that housed recovering drunks and drug addicts and got them back on their feet, but many did not make it through the program for various reasons.
I worked with the Director of the mission with the Men's program (they also had a separate women's program). They all were housed in a three story buidling.
One particular man on the program was violating the conditions for his program and had to be removed. So, I was called into the office, to be there, while the Director delivered the bad news. This guy was really a bad dude, too and full of anger, so we sorta anticipated trouble and that was a reason for having a couple of us there at the time.
Well, sure enough, this guy erupted in anger and literally, without warning "flew" out of his chair and went for the director and bowled him over backwards onto his desk. I came up out of my chair in a flash and was on this guy's back as he had the director on his back, on the desk. This dude was super-strong and he was built and had the muscles. He was probably stronger than the both of us put together (unfortunately for us... LOL!). I was on this guy's back, trying to pull his arms back (around to his back, as he was trying to strangle the director.
The director managed to raise up from the desk and get to his feet, all the while while this dude is trying to choke him, and I'm on his back trying to pull his arms back around to his back. And all three of us are all locked together and we go stumbling around the room and finally, I'm banged up against the wall (to my back) and I managed to pull his arms back enough so that the director escapes from his hold. And then..., he runs out of the room...., ooops! That leaves me there all alone with this guy.
When the director got away, I released my grip off this guy and he got away from me, too. But, I was in the far back end of the office, while this dude was between me and the door. I would have to go through him to get out of the room. And he wasn't looking too kindly to me. He was out after me now and he was serious. And he was out to do some serious damage.
He looked at me, while I stood there wondering what I was going to do, and he looked around the room quickly to see what he could grab to go after me with it. He grabbed one of these trophy type things, with a heavy base and some kind of statue on it. He grabbed that and started swinging it back and forth, very slowly and menacingly at me, heading step by step over in my direction. It was a very slow movement with the trophy-statue, meaning to indicate that he's coming after me and he's showing me what he's going to use.
I backed up, but I didn't have far to go because I was pretty much at the wall in the office anyway. He only had to go a few more steps and then a few really strong and serious swings with it and I would be in big trouble. At that point I thought I had it.
BUT, all of a sudden, as he was very slowly and menacingly moving it back and forth in front of me -- the statue literally flew out of his hand -- like it was hit by a bat or something. I mean, it was literally *knocked out* of his hand. You should have seen the very shocked look on his face. It was pure shock. I must have had that same look on my face, because I couldn't believe the way that thing just flew out of his hand like it had been smacked with a big bat. We were both (for a couple of seconds) just stunned, looking at that and not doing anything, except just looking... LOL!
But,. he recovered pretty quickly. Now, here's another interesting thing about this. When that trophy-statue flew out of his hand, it flew right over the top of the director's desk, bounced and slid across it, and hit the wall that the desk was up against and slid down behind the desk where it was hidden and not accessible.
The dude, after "recovering" from his shock (shortly thereafter), took a few steps over towards the desk looking for where it went, couldn't see it or realized that he couldn't get to it without taking a lot of his attention off me -- so he then quickly looked around the room to see if there was anything else to grab, but saw there was nothing else, then looked at me -- still sort of "incredulous looking" on his face, and turned around and walked out of the room.
I was still stunned and couldn't believe it. I mean that trophy-statue literally flew out of his hand like it was shot from a gun and flew with such force over against that wall and down behind the desk where it couldn't be reached easily.
There was absolutely *no momentum* in anything that this guy did. He was not violently swinging or anything. Things like that just can't fly out of your hand the way this thing did. It's still "unbelieveable" to me -- to this very day, thinking about it and realizing how that thing flew out of his hand. You just can't believe the looks on both of our faces, I'm sure. LOL!
So, I know that something remarkable happened there. Surely it was God looking out for me and I thank Him for sending His angels to do His bidding. He's never surprised at things, always knows what is going to happen, and if it's in His will to do something about it, He will do so and/or send one of His millions of ministering angels to take care of whatever He says.
That day, it was one of His ministering angels who saved me from getting a terrible beating (or..., as this guy was capable of doing), killing me.
From time to time, I'm reminded of these things. You do tend to forget them over a period of time, and then (all of a sudden) something reminds you once again. I had forgotten about this one, for quite a few years, now, until I was just reminded of it once again.
God does intervene, every day, all over this earth, in many ways and according to His will and in working out His divine plan and in bringing things to the conclusion that He has determined for all of us here on this earth.
I would encourage everyone to be cognizant and aware of this, every day and don't forget God is always there and He will send His ministering angels.
Regards,
Star Traveler
I don’t think he is lying. I know a lot of Christians who think as he does. I don’t believe it means he is not a Christian himself, although I do question if those he speaks of as praying to the same“God” will find real salvation.
