Thompson said Friday he will not support a federal gay marriage ban. Thompson thinks the states should decide. Thompson did support the federal Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. What year did Fred catch his Federalist infection? I see a pattern here. Like the recent flip flopping on Laura Ingraham's show about S-27. Like his questionnaire answers on Abortion where he wrote-
"Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy."
Fred did vote pro life, but that statement and many others bother me. I prefer a consistent candidate who is not selling Kool Aide to appeal to both sides. A man with a solid 26 year record of votes and floor speeches.
"I firmly believe that marriage is one of the most important social institutions we have and that it is central to promoting family values and raising children in a healthy environment. It is for this reason that I cosponsored and voted in favor of H.J. Res. 88 (Musgrave-CO), which proposes an amendment to the U.S. Constitution declaring that marriage in the United States shall consist solely of the union of a man and a woman. Numerous studies indicate fathers excel at reducing antisocial behavior and delinquency in boys and sexual activity in girls, while mothers provide emotional security and read the physical and emotional cues of infants. I firmly believe that children need the unique influence offered by both a father and a mother"~Duncan Hunter
>Fred has no problem with amendments to tell states they must limit the terms of their representatives.<
>>Um...the Constitution explicitly gives Congress the power to define the conditions of election and qualifications for their own members.<<
Why bring the Constitution into it? It is Fred’s duplicitous policy which were pointed out. Not the Constitution.
Did you post this under poetry?
..uh-oh...
Yes, on accident. I thought I hit politics, but it showed up poetry right away.
No worries. Fred heads will rationalize anything he says. Like Hugh Hewitt supporting Romney. Open borders Hugh was nothing if not consistent in his open borders flim flam, until his man Mitt came out in support of the fence. LOL
This is a race. If you think FDT supporters don’t try to throw ice cubes on DH tracks read some of their posts. It is part of the process. Especially with all the subterfuge going on in the country today, and with what is ultimately at stake here, it is important to be starkly aware of whom we vote.
A race that Duncan really isn't in, nor will he be. I don't see what the point is in throwing mud at the only front runner who has any claim at being conservative. It is not helping Hunter out in any way shape or form.
..hey, BTW, is DH in that Patraeus hearing?
I believe so. But I don’t have TV at work.
..I’m watching the stream on C-Span, but I can’t capture it—RASTER! can you capture this, buddy?
Since pissant was complaining about Thompson's supposed lack of federalism on the issue, I thought that looking to the Constitution, which actually does spell out those powers the government ought to have, would make sense.
In general, I consider following the Constitution to be a federalist position. Don't you?
You can't be serious.
bttt
That was my first thought, followed by the realization that the comment was serious. And this from a supposed "true conservative".
Can’t do streaming from work....
:-(
Could try to get it on the replay or record from TV when it’s aired.
Unfortunately, the Establishment has thrown FDT into the fray
*I* (and conservatives like me) drafted Fred.
As I said before, but will try to simplify for your edification, the post I responded to concerned the duplicity of Fred Thompson’s positions in two different areas. It was not questioning the Constitution, in which I believe implicitly.
Nonsense. Read #1, which is what I was originally replying to. It specifically casts Thompson’s federalism as a position of convenience. I was showing, by reference to the Constitution, that both positions are consistent with federalism.
