Tony Blair Catholic? So What?
The Conservative Crusader ^ | June 24, 2007 | J. Grant Swank, Jr.

He’s not much of a Christian, that is, in the biblical sense. He makes his own ethic. He does not regard the biblical morality as divinely revealed otherwise he would line up with God’s lifestyle as do all committed believers.

Therefore, if the Vatican gains Tony Blair on its membership role, what of it? It won’t make a difference to God. God wants Blair to obey the biblical ethic, convinced that Christ is God as Lord, personal Savior.

So as far as eternity is concerned, Tony moving from Anglican role to Catholic role won’t mean a twit of difference.

Nevertheless, Tony seems bent on becoming what the rest of his family is—Roman Catholic. That may make a few rosary bead pray-ers happy for a few days but, other than that, a few years from now no one will remember Tony or his move to Rome.

In the meantime, Tony informs media that he reads both the Bible and Koran daily. Now that is truly chaotic if not idiotic. The Bible does not mesh with the Koran. They are on two separate poles. Honestly, if Tony is genuinely confessing his daily devotional regime, he is either stupid or a liar.

The Bible has no category likeness unto the Koran. The Koran is laden with murder and maiming verses binding to the zealot Muslim. That is the underlying reason for today’s carnage worldwide. The Koran is a cultic, demonic writ from a crazed mortal named Mohammed.

Christians hold the Bible as provided by a holy, loving deity whose ultimate act was becoming incarnate in Christ, the latter providing Himself as a sinless sacrifice in our stead on Calvary’s cross. The Bible is the hope, a saving message for a repentant mankind.

The Koran has nothing like unto Psalm 23, the Good Samaritan, I Corinthian’s Love Chapter, The Book of Revelation’s prophetic future of a millennial reign in righteous love, and especially the redemptive message of grace made possible by way of Christ’s death in our place.

Tony has a particular admiration of the Catholic theologian—a professed theological liberal—German Hans Kung. Kung is not characteristic of Catholic moral standards or Catholic exegesis of the biblical record.

There is reason for Tony to exit Anglicanism, not only because he rarely attends their worships, but because Anglicanism in England has become apostate. It is the champion of everything non-biblical. That is the major grief brought upon the biblical believers within the Anglican Communion. So there is no logical reason for any thinking person to place one’s name upon the Anglican membership role now that it has forsaken God its Author.

Tony disagrees with the Catholic morality regarding stem cell research, for instance. Tony supports abortion, even partial birth abortion. He endorses practicing homosexual lifestyles. According to one Catholic cleric, Tony has “some way to go” concerning significant Catholic ethical issues.

Tony also has a brazen persona by which he partakes of communion in Catholic sanctuaries while knowing that only baptized Catholics are to partake of the sacrament. In other words, his hubris is showing and will continue to show, no doubt irritating Rome more than once in the future.

On one point regarding the above, Tony does have a point. When disciplined for taking communion in a Catholic church while not being a Catholic, Tony responded with the question: “What would Jesus make of that?”

I, a Protestant, agree. The sacrament does not belong to any one segment of Christendom. It is Christ’s table. All those who trust in Christ, regardless of denominational tag, have the right to partake of the sacramental elements.

Tony Blair’s wife is a devout Catholic. He kept up the appearance of Church of England membership out of respect to the Queen, but only so long as he was Prime Minister.

<< a few years from now no one will remember Tony or his move to Rome. >>

Wishful thinking.

This 2002 article describes how the Blairs participated in some ceremony in Mexico where they were reborn and became one with ‘Mother Earth’!

Define "devout".Are we talking "Ted Kennedy devout" or another kind?

LOL! That's a whole new category of religious devotion that we should remember for future reference: "Ted Kennedy devout."

I read yesterday that the Pope had a long and serious chat with Blair (even described as a "scolding") over his completely non-Catholic positions on cloning, abortion, same sex "marriage," etc. So I'd be surprised if Blair goes ahead and becomes a Catholic, or if he does, I think he may have been told that "Ted Kennedy devout" no longer flies with Rome.

"devout" as in: Mrs. Blair is a very sober Judge who goes to church each Sunday (with Tony and kids), doesn't fornicate, doesn't drown innocent girls, doesn't get roaring drunk, doesn't compulsively lie, is modest, and does not commit adultary.

OK...this would certainly suggest that she's closer to being "devout" than is Teddy but has she shown any evidence of being at odds with any of the Church's positions regarding morality,etc.....as Teddy has consistently done over the last 40+ years?
