A complaint filed at the end of March in the United States District Court District of Massachusetts, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says two Hispanic workers, one's national original is the Dominican Republic, and the other's is El Salvador) were subjected to discrimination by the Salvation Army "on the basis of their national origin (Hispanic) by requiring them to comply with Defendant's English-only rule.

Sigh. The U.S. Government has better things to do than sue a church, don’t they?
Apparently the EEOC does not. Bureaucratic imperative at work.It certainly calls Bush's promotion of faith-based government work into serious question. Not that the article mentions the government's even needing the excuse of federal funding . . .
Welcome to FR
Were these Hispanics working in this country legally? If not, there’s a conflict of interest between governmental bodies, one saying don’t hire illegals and the other saying they have employee rights.
PC run amok :EEOC suing for Illegal Aliens
I just sent a note to Sen Salazar.
For instance, a few years ago a postal supervisor proposed firing a veteran letter-carrier who was close to retirement, but who put Christmas cards addressed to his customers into their mail boxes, without putting stamps on them. The action was promptly reversed, and the man who proposed it was transferred, presumably, to a post office in Nome, Alaska.
This stupidity by EEOC ranks at the same level of WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Maybe a Democratic administration could allow this to go on. However, I hope and believe that this Republican administration will have the vestigial common sense to reverse this action, and turn the people involved into "Permanent Latrine Orderlies," as it existed in No Time for Sergeants.

The Salvation army won a suit about this in 2003, but that’s not good enough!
EEOC sues Salvation Army for requiring English!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1825568/posts
The EEOC has filed a...complaint accusing the Salvation Army of discrimination on the basis of national origin. At issue is a Salvation Army policy that requires its workers to speak English in the workplace.
TOM TANCREDO (R): This is America. We speak English. It’s better for the people who are here to learn English and actually have the ability to get ahead in life. That’s what we should be encouraging.
SYLVESTER: In 2003, a federal judge upheld the Salvation Army’s English-only policy, ruling that it served a legitimate business purpose, promoting effective communication and helping improve productivity and efficiency.
But the EEOC contends that the Salvation Army store in Massachusetts has not shown a legitimate business justification...... seeking back pay for the workers, compensation for losses that resulted from their unemployment, and an unspecified amount of punitive damages .
DOBBS: Well, the EEOC, frankly, they’re a bunch of yellow bellies. I mean, we asked them to come on here.
The idea that they don’t even return our phone calls, this is an arrogant agency, out of control, and completely out of tune with either the meaning of the law, or common sense or plain decency.
SYLVESTER: Well,..... it’s going to all be settled in the courts. But you can go back to that 2003 case, and a federal judge said that the Salvation Army was in the right.
DOBBS:
We’re going to continue to offer.....to the director of the EEOC.... show us that at least you’ve got the guts to communicate with the people who pay your salary, American citizens, this audience, the American people. Because you really got a lot to explain.......intimidate the Salvation Army to the point that they can’t put a spokesman forward to defend themselves, that’s unconscionable. And you’re way, way out of line here.
This suit was brought in Massachusetts. It is impossible to embarass a Massachusetts politician and/or government worker. It can’t be done. They have no shame.
