Ann Coulter calls it treason, Tammy Bruce calls it 'malignant narcissism' and liberals call it patriotism. Call it what you will, but there is no denying the fact that hating America has replaced race as the all determining reality for many Americans.
What would have been considered treason 40 years ago is now accepted as cutting edge commentary. Democrats appear to be rooting for defeat in Iraq as a way to defeat George Bush. Pundits routinely give terrorists the benefit of the doubt while excoriating America. Hollywood stars

As an added fact, slavery still exists in many African countries, as well as, many of the Middle Eastern countries.
I know that, as well. Think Liberals anywhere on earth care one bit about that???
He and he alone has the bully pulpit, but he doesn’t use it.
That’s why it is so important for the liberals to destroy any credibility President Bush has had. (What amuses me is the idea that if the Dems win they can flip a switch and all will be well with the international community.)
Where were you when he campaigned for Social Security Reform? Personnal Accounts? You can’t say he hasn’t tried yet each time he gets punched in the face.
His stand against abortion, for example, is an insistence that those who would abort take responsibility for the child they have made.
His response to terrorism that views it as requiring primarily military action rather than "understanding" terrorists amounts to holding them responsible, rather than coddling and appeasing them.
His approach to government programs such as education ("No Child Left Behind" or what have you) is an attempt to impart a sense of responsibility and accountability to the people who would carry them out.
Note, I am not necessarily saying that everything Bush has done in this mold is *good*. Nor am I necessarily saying that Bush himself demonstrates a lot of personal responsibility for his actions (which, I suspect, is the basis of your objection). But that's irrelevant to the point she was making - he exemplifies personal responsibility. In other words, he reminds the Left of personal responsibility, and that's a big part of why they hate him. This is true regardless of whether he, himself, is actually all that personally responsible.
But he has something to lose personally, and he didn’t have to do this.
‘racism, etc., is man’s fault.’
Who or what else causes racism if not man?
“Why (some) Liberals Hate America”
...and the deadly result of this hatred (sorry to piggyback on your good article, but thought this relevant).
Since 9/11 I’ve been amused at the sad irony and hypocrisy of the Left as they searched for the reasons to why the rest of the world hates America (especially our Islamic brothers). Excuses immediately began pouring out of the woodwork; it’s our foreign policy, it’s our support for Israel, it’s our consumption and wealth...blah, blah, blah. Conspicuously missing from all these “excuses” was the Left’s own contribution to this hatred, which is perhaps the most damaging and dangerous to this country.
A great illustration of this ocurred while I was listening to Charlie Rangel’s (D-NY) news conference several months ago in which he objected to the rhetoric of Hugo Chavez berating our President before the UN. I couldn’t help but be amused by this hypocrisy; for years the Democrats have attacked Bush—just as they do every Republican president, maligning and marginalizing them for the rest of the world to see and hear.
This hypocrisy became even more evident as I watched Hugo Chavez (from the podium at the U.N.) endorse a book written by one of the leading, liberal American authors/professors (Noam Chomsky) whose only work has been that of attacking his own country for years on-end. This MIT professor’s anti-American diatribes have made him a favorite among the American-hating Left in this country...and now as we see, with other world leaders who take these screeds as facts to justify and excuse their own anti-American hatred.
From liberal professors in academia, to Democrat politicians to Hollywood actors and their movies and the media—American liberals have ingrained a hatred in the mind of others for this country that goes well beyond Bush, the Iraq War and this administration. They’ve been building this resentment for decades—in our classrooms, TV/movies, the news media and certainly in our politics.
In the last couple years alone, both the media and leaders within the Democrat Party have spoon-fed our enemies the very excuses and reasons to hate us. From Dick Durbin accusing US troops at Gitmo of committing heinous atrocities to John Kerry claiming US soldiers were terrorizing innocent Iraqis, these elected Democrats have fed this hatred. When you have the leading Democrat in the Senate (Harry Reid) before a classroom of children referring to president Bush as a “loser,” just what kind of message do they think this is sending to others around the world. Do they honestly expect a dictator like Chavez to treat or respect our president any better than they do?
From 50+ front page news stories by the NY Times on the “torture” at Abu Ghraib (and Ted Kennedy agreeing, claiming it is open under new management), to Newsweek’s lying article about US soldiers flushing a koran down a toilet, the liberal media in alliance with their Democrat counterparts have willingly become the instigators of this very hatred. This same media that chastises the US government for daring to display photos of Saddam and his two dead sons...and ANY captured prisoners (sighting Geneva Accords) had no problem demanding that even more photos of Abu Ghraib be released, almost a year after the event, just so they could further inflame Muslim emotions “against” the USA.
Whether it’s the vitriolic rhetoric of Democratic politicians accusing Bush of being a liar or the deliberate misrepresentations made by liberal film makers such as Michael Moore, the bombardment of hatred towards this country, by people in this country, is inescapable. People from around the world could pick up any Hollywood movie and see (from the Left’s perspective) how the USA is nothing but a racist and degenerate society, as we assassinate our own leaders...or hear how many honorable soldiers who served in Vietnam were nothing more than baby-killers and savages.
Is it really any wonder why the rest of the world may hate America when you see how the media, Democrat politicians, liberal Hollywood and the entertainment industry (including music) has defined this country? Whether it’s the conspiracy theories emminating from the minds and mouths of people like Rosie O’Donnell or Sean Penn, the Left’s fringe has become part of their mainstream. As a result, their words are carried from the TV and “net” to all places around the globe—including in the foreign press, that picks these screeds up as fact and actual news events. These Liberals haven’t just emboldened our enemies, they’ve enabled them; they’ve given Muslims around the world the very excuses and reasons to hate us, and thus, further attack us.
Perhaps most ironic and just as dangerous is the “domestic” terrorism that liberalism inspires. From people like John Walker Lind to the Korean student at VT (Cho), liberalism is indoctrinating American students with a vapid hatred for this country. Liberal professors who engage in wild conspiracy theories and anti-American rhetoric are creating a new generation of young adults who are being bred to despise their own country. And while most won’t go join the Jihad, you can see the result of this brainwashing and hatred anytime a conservative speaker appears on a college campus. This is the nature of liberalism, which does nothing more than prey on the youth or disenfranchised through fear and discontent, as it creates perpetual conflicts.
Through their own words and deeds, Liberals have endangered every one of us and our families. Whether it’s our enemies abroad...or our own people within, liberals have professed and ingrained a hatred through their politics into the minds and souls of people around the world for America and Her way of life. If Liberals really want to know why America is hated, they don’t have to look any further than the nearest mirror and see how they are directly responsible for this hatred; a hatred that is creating enemies who now wish us ill-will. If there is another attack on our soil, we can thank people like Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, the media and sadly, even several elected Democrats. These people are truly, the enemy within.
“Yet (morally superior in their own minds)liberals are the worst oppressors of all (gun control, freedom of speech on college campuses, abortion, the MSM) in the tradition of Marx, Lenin,& Stalin’
You will never convince liberals of this.
“But the puppy eventually learns....”
Not liberal puppies
Facts are quickly becoming moot. Nothing will make a liberal angrier than pushing his nose in facts. Pretty soon, inconvenient facts may be punishable.
Ya see the Hollywood jerks and most of the music world are not as dumb as they look, by degrading, blaming and other assorted un patriotic slander of America they appeal to a socialist international crowd who hate America just as much and will buy thier garbage movies and cd’s.
This is implied, but not the way it has been framed. Since parenting seems to be a lost art in this country, GWB might actually do better with this argument if he framed it in terms of personal responsibility. The same could be said for developing marketable job skills, providing for one's self, etc.
His response to terrorism that views it as requiring primarily military action rather than "understanding" terrorists amounts to holding them responsible, rather than coddling and appeasing them.
Again, this has not been framed in terms of personal responsibility. It is implied
His approach to government programs such as education ("No Child Left Behind" or what have you) is an attempt to impart a sense of responsibility and accountability to the people who would carry them out.
Once again, this is implied. Bush should take a page from Dale Carnegie's book and lay down a high expectation for the American public to live up to. Believe it or not (as a former DC instructor) this stuff really works.
Bush needs to use his bully pulpit to remind people, daily if necessary, that government cannot be all things to all people. Ultimately, the government is charged with promoting an environment where people can prosper. It is up to each and every individual to achieve their own greatness. Government cannot provide prosperity or morality. Challenge the masses to achieve and they will. This has been proven again and again. Provide a few trinkets in exchange for votes and you will see many hover on the bottom rung, ultimately becoming parasites on society. Remember the (not so) Great Society? Classic example of what I'm talking about.
