READ THIS TWO BOOKS :

“TO HELL WITH HONOR”, Larry Sklenar, Oklahoma Press

“LAKOTA NOON”, Gregory Michno, Missoula Press

This two acclaimed studies will change your view of the battle.

“Custer never underestimated the size of the enemy (actually 1’500 warriors).

It is a myth.”

Then he was an even bigger fool.

“I wrote a book about it.”

Well, if your premise is that Custer was betrayed, I reject it outright. No thanks.

The you’ll never understand Little Big Horn. US general in chief Nelson A. Miles agreed with the betrayal, along with the Little Big Horn Inquiry Hearer Jesse Lee.

Check out books on the subjects.

Don’t care what Miles said. Don’t care what you claim.
Been to the battlefield. Read enough to be comfortable with my opinion. Keep trying to blame others for Custer’s mistake. Fool’s errand.

“Except that two heavy machine gun would have been useless to a light force of cavalry, whose strength came from mobility.”

Yes, but they weren’t very mobile when they were “waiting at the bottom of the hill for all the indians in the world to ride right down on top of ‘em” (Old Bill Cosby joke)

I have to believe that when you’re surrounded by 1500 indians, two Gatling Guns on horse-drawn carriages that can be guickly swiveled would be a distinct help.

I also have to believe that if you had ask Custer during the battle if he wished now he had brought them, he would have said YES!

The fact that they didn’t begin the battle by thinking they would end it behind breastworks...

Custer’s plan was the following : Reno had to show up in the south west, to attract Indians. Benteen had to attack the center. Custer had to attack on the north west to capture the civilians and close the door to the Indians.

I have written a 800 pages book on the subject and made extensive researchs during 6 years. So, if you mind, I will keep my analysis which is far more accurate than yours. Read Michno and Sklenar if you want a real view of the battle of the Little Big Horn. Even Robert Utley, one of the best historian of the American West, changed his view of LBH after having read both authors. According to the latest studies (2006), the numbers of Indian casulaties are much greater than always said, about 200 killed and 200 wounded.

Have been there. Had THE REAL VIEW. Don’t need or want your advice. Good luck pimping your book.

Daniel Kanipe was my second cousin 3 times removed. He is burried in Marion North Carolina. In his words he was lucky because the sergeant (Finkle?) who would have normally taken the message had a lame horse, so he was next in line to take the message to bring up the pack train and tell Benteen to come quick.
