The author is so clueless about fighting the War on Terror, it’s actually painful.

He seems to think that it’s ONLY about giving good-sounding speeches.

Pathetic.

“It is certain that Fred Thompson will be elected president in 2008. It is just as certain that sometime in the next few years America will be the subject of another horrific terrorist attack. Which raises the question of how President-Elect Thompson will serve the nation when that happens. President Bush showed courage after September 11. He gave some of the best speeches of his presidency. But despite my respect for this very good man, President Bush, at his best does not approach Fred Thompson at his worst as a communicator. “

Actually this is the WORST INDICTMENT of Fred Thompson, acknowledging that ALL HE CAN DO IS MAKE SPEECHES — if someone writes it out for him.

The rush to coronate Thompson may be a bit premature.

He hasn't even announced. But let him get close to the White House, and you can bet Team Hillary will pull out the big guns.

Why? The Battleground Poll, the most respected of all the polls, has consistently for many years shown that sixty percent of Americans consider themselves as “conservative” while only thirty-five percent of Americans consider themselves as “liberals” (those poll have the option of calling themselves a “moderate” or “don’t know” and choose “conservative” or “liberal” instead.)

The above makes no sense as written. If the prose was meant to suggest that moderates were forced to use the word liberal or conservative to describe themselves, and nothing else, since the word "liberal" has bad odor (some mix it up with libertine), maybe the numbers are correct. But they are meaningless. Self described moderates are about as large a cohort as conservatives, each maybe with a bit more of a third of the vote, with liberals around 25%, and the rest unsure.

“The survey, by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, found a “dramatic shift” in political party identification since 2002, when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, 50% of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, whereas 35% aligned with Republicans.”

You don’t win elections with 35% of the people voting for you.

My grandfather admired Charles Evans Hughes. I have an autograph of his as Chief Justice of Supreme Court. Gramps was a rock ribbed Republican.

The second statement is true. The first is not.

That was quite motivating. I think the rudy-bots have got something serious to worry about. A Thompson/ Hunter or Hunter/ Thompson ticket would wipe the floor with the libs.

Thompson and Gingrich is a force to be reckoned with..

ALL others are pretenders..

Actually Gingrich, Thompson, and Hunter are the dream team..

But even THEY will not be elected..
America's WOMEN WANT a socialist president and they WILL HAVE ONE..

BUT the dream team can prepare for 2012 after Hitlery ruins the economy..
With taxes and Universal Health Care..

Some more by Bruce Walker: Yes, The Next Reagan

because he was an extremely popular Tennessee senator, Thompson would completely sweep the South, including problematic states like Arkansas, Florida and Virginia. Thompson, like Reagan, is one of the few modern candidates who has true regional drawing power.

Seems likely to me that all Thompson needs to do is show up in New Hampshire and Iowa and walk away with the nomination. I, personally, will vote for Thompson if he runs. I just hope he picks a VP worthy to follow in his footsteps if something happens to him.
