I hope this is not an inappropriate use of this site. If so, please disregard or delete this posting.
My family has been torn apart by the state of Wisconsin. Our 12 year old daughter has been taken away by the state and is only days away from being given psychotropic and other drugs against our will.
We are in the process of securing legal representation and we surely would appreciate any advice or referrals from fellow Wisconsin freepers. We are looking at local attorneys, of course, but this site has been such a great source of information for me on other issues that I figured it would not hurt to ask for help/advice here.
We live in western Wisconsin and need an expert in family law and parental rights.
Thanks so much in advance!
Also, I have not given much detail here, but rest assured this is not a matter that involves a problem at home (no abuse, etc.).
Have you contacted any local media? Anyone else think this is a good idea?
That idea has been given some thought but it is not something we are considering at this point. Perhaps later after legal types have a chance to gather info and provide advice.
Thanks for your concern.
Why was she taken away?
When that reason is known, perhaps some lawyers here could give you some advice. And why the drugs to "help her"? What's going on?
I am assuming the "State" specifically refers to the Wisconsin equivalent of Child Protective Services? I actually have a friend of mine in Utah who works for that state's Child Protective Services, let me ask her if there's anything that you can do on your end.
And the due process used to do this was........
What did the state say was the reason they needed to do so and who signed off on it? Don't tell us your side of the story, tell us the state's side of the story because that's the one that has to be dealt with.
You should have lawyered up before they got this far. It's easier to stop the state before they take action than it is to unravel the muddle they make.
there is a national organization...support group ...NAMI...that is for the families of mentally ill people and can offer guidance for dealing with the mental health system.
this group can offer support and also information, etc.
the website is

The National Alliance on Mental Illness
We will pray for you!
You are the legal guardians.
Unless someone is in immediate danger to themselves or others, a patient can refuse medication or treatment.
Prayers for you.....GET A LAWYER NOW!!
I hope everybody here appreciates that I don't want to give many details at this time. I am mostly looking for lawyer referrals, but I also would be interested in web links to info about the psychotropic and anti-depressant drugs being given to so many kids today, parental rights groups, etc.
We are a Christian family and really appreciate the prayers mentioned.
'...Unless someone is in immediate danger to themselves or others...'
I can say that, yes, this was the government's reasoning for initiating the commitment process.
Are both of you her parents or is there an ex-spouse parent involved?
We're the biological parents.
OK - just wanted to get that out of the way as a question. I'm stumped past that as to how this could've happened - who would've reported you to CPS. Sorry.
'...who would've reported you to CPS...'
This is not that kind of situation. She was taken from school.
OK - I didn't know that could be done without your consent or your being right there with her.
'...I didn't know that could be done without your consent or your being right there with her.'
Actually, I was prevented from seeing her (by the principal) while an evaluation and decision to take her was being done by a cop and a 'counselor' in another room. This is one of our complaints.
Here's my 48-hour prayer candle for you:
Thanks for the prayer candle thing! I've not seen that before. We really appreciated it.
Wish we could help more than that - perhaps you'll get the best attorney right off the bat. I hope so. Best of luck to you all.
