UNION, Mo. The hulking pizza manager accused of snatching two boys in Missouri is so ashamed of his arrest, he can't face his own mom and dad.
"I don't know how I'm going to explain myself to my parents," said Michael Devlin, who is accused of kidnapping Shawn Hornbeck and Ben Ownby, in an exclusive interview with The New York Post.
"It's much easier talking to a stranger about these things than your own parents."

I agree. Can't the judge shut this man up? He's trying to manipulate the jury pool with sympathy. And I believe that he's using the media to continue to try and manipulate Shawn, who will have to testify against him. He just spent nearly 4 1/2 years trying to destroy Shawn's life. Apparently he's not done. He says he was happy with Shawn and sex isn't important. I believe that's a direct message to Shawn to continue to mess with his mind. Why does the judge allow this to happen?
oh really, interesting!
"sex isn't important"
"There had been hints about Devlin's private life. Some time before Shawn arrived to live with him, Laura Aguilar, another neighbor, happened to look through Devlin's street-level bathroom window. She was disconcerted to see a variety of what appeared to be sexual toys."

I didn't believe him for a second. I think what he's trying to convey to Shawn through the media is that it wasn't the sex that was important to me; it was you. Much like how men tell women they're sleeping with to keep them from getting wise and splitting. This man needs to be shut up. He's done enough damage to Shawn.
He needs to spend his time figuring out how to talk to his God because he will probably be seeing him soon.
You are most likely correct in your analysis. He was hoping Shawn would read it. It was a "look at what you have done to me Shawn" message...Now that I read it from that angle, I can see that this interview was probably only meant for Shawn.
"the last 4 years were happy ones" makes me want to throw up.
Oh he can live in prison and have a longer and healthier life than you or me
And remember, Shawn has to testify against him. There is no doubt in my mind that Shawn has mixed feelings toward Devlin--from loathing to affection. The judicial system and the media must not be allowed to damage this young man any more.
Yes, I know. It reminds me of the girl in Germany that was held captive for years. She mourned her captor when he was killed.
I don't think it's that outrageous for parents never to go to the home of a son who lives by himself. Especially if he calls regularly and never invites them. Everyone is tryng to bring logic to a very illogical situation.
The way judges rule, he/she might HAVE sympathy for this monster.
To me it looks like if the boy had "gay" sex with him by force ... Shawn would be his buddy for video games and do whatever he liked to do. Of course the threat of murdering him kept him from straying.
Please don't call it "kiddie porn" - that is so demeaning to the children who are victims. They aren't cartoons.
Sorry, that's a real bugaboo for me.
The prosecutor has said he probably won't need to call Shawn, that he "quote, end quote" *has everything he needs* already.
That's the first I'd heard that. I think that's unusual, but I certainly hope that it's true. This young man has certainly been through enough.
The Washington Co DA stated that in one of the news conferences. It leads me to believe they found quite a bit in the apt as evidence.
That's what I'm thinking, too - as in videotape, among other things.
"POS" bump.
i think he has video an stuff on his puter!
I don't think it is relevant but, for what it is worth, there is a guy named Charles who is being interviewed on local radio show, who says Devlin is a liberal. Charles did all the repairs on the pizza equipment. Said Devlin was very smart, very well informed. Charles is a conservative and says they would debate issues all the time. Again, I don't think it is that relevant, but since you asked.....
