One of our soldiers emailed a retailer last week in West Allis, Wisconsin, inquiring whether they could ship floor mats to an APO address. The NCO wanted to buy better gear for his troops to sleep on. You won’t believe the company’s response. (Their email address is included below, if you’d like to let the company know what you think of their business.):

It exemplifies and illustrates well the level of frustration at large in the overwhelming majority of the U.S. population aimed at the abject failure of GWB and his VP.

On the return to Atlanta on a charter flight from my third voluntary visit to SEA in 1970 (totaling 30+ months), the passengers were advised that we might consider changing from our uniforms into civilian clothes if they were readily available. The flight attendant said there might be some folks in the terminal unhappy to see us. I declined as did most of the guys on the flight. I was proud then, as the troops should be now, of our accomplishment notwithstanding the abject stupidity of the president and his advisors--the same now as then.

My son served four years in Germany during X42. He was always told to wear civilian clothes whenever possible.

He travelled to France during World Cup and was advised to say he was Canadian!
