James Webb Angers Veterans

"It's never exactly been a secret that James Webb a jerk. But even before he takes his place in the Senate, this fact is becoming common knowledge. First, he turned a kind inquiry about his son from President Bush into a confrontation. Given the president's unpopularity, Webb figured he could get some mileage out of his boorish conduct, which he proceeded to publicize."

"However, Webb doesn't figure to get much mileage from stiffing veterans in Virginia Beach. Webb promised to appear at a Veterans' Day event there, but pulled out at the last minute on the theory that attending would have "eaten up an entire weekend." Webb then purported to be "perplexed" because the veterans weren't sufficiently understanding of his circumstances."

"According to the Virginian-Pilot, reaction from veterans ranged from disappointment to fury. Said Patrick Callahan, combat vet and president of a local Vietnam Veterans of America chapter, "ditching us was uncalled for and it will not be forgiven,"

I'd be shocked if he doesn't. Presidents generally don't veto their own side's legislation.

That's his mistake not the conservatives that since 1991 demanded fiscal responsibility.

You know, you have a quite unrealistic expectation of how the legislative and executive branches work together.

President Bush gave the Republicans a target on their budget, which they stayed within every year. Within those budgets, however, the allocation was decided (after broad guidelines had been met) at the discretion of the House.

Exactly how long do you think a President could gain cooperation from members of his own party if he vetoed their bills?

"I'd say their constant badmouthing of the President and republicans had a big part in what happened to America and the civilized world on election day."

I'd say it was the piss-poor leadership, cowardice, stupidity and incompetence of the Senate and House that had a big part of what happened on election day.

No, the democrats won because a good portion of the general public fell for the media's propaganda.

I'll just refer you to post 44. Can't say it any better.

If we use the media to blame for getting bad information and propaganda then the GOP should fold up its tent and give up now, because that's not news.

Miss Marple, I was told in person by the President of the United States at his campaign stop in West Chester Ohio that he was a Fiscal Conservative, but I'm unrealistic to listen to a campaign speech.

I'll leave you with one word............EARMARK!

Virginia is a very narrowly divided state. The swing vote is pretty much made up of Ku Kluxers ~ they liked Webb this time, and they used to like Chuck Robb.

They didn't like Ollie North.

So, the people of Virginia didn't vote in this Webb character ~ it was a coalition of Ku Kluxers, blacks and Democrat anti-semites.

I really have no idea how these guys are ever going to sort out who goes in the ovens first, but if they ever get real power around here it could get nasty.

Webb is an idiot. He's rude, arrogant and should have been arrested by the secret service when he threatened bodily harm against the President just because he was asked how his son was. I'd be willing to bet that, in Virginia, there was plenty of voter fraud on the Dim's side this past election. I was sickened to hear that Webb won...between him and Tim Kane, Virginia is doomed.

The Post preferred Webb because he's an anti-semite and so is Donald Graham Jr. who owns the Post.

This election was decided by the vilest of means for the basest of reasons.

Bush should have Webb's son rotated out of Iraq. I guess that is what Webb and his son want.

Hey leadpenny, they are picking on your guy over here on this thread. Thought maybe you'd like to come and defend him since you voted for him.

Facts just get in the way of the I Told You So's, the My Way or the Highway's.

Spite is an ugly characteristic in any circumstances. In this case, the betrayal of the President, the troops and our allies is simply unforgivable.

Maybe Webb would prefer his son start pulling duty on the Korean DMZ ~ now that's some fun stuff. I did service on the West German/East German/Czech border and watching minefields all day is a bit un-nerving ~ the minefields at the Korean DMZ are far worse I understand.

One thing not taken into consideration in all this discourse is that ... voting was never intended for stupid people. An example of what you get with PUBLIC EDUCATION and no recorse to eliminate idiots at the polling place. I knew James Webb in the military and when he was "Assistant" Sec. of the Navy. He's been a jerk and a boob the whole time...that's how he got rank and a political appointment

Considering the high percentage of votes he got in the VaBeach communities, he better beware of biting the hand that fed him.

You really don't have a clue about how the budget process works, do you? Do yu think the President can control earmarks? Do you think that he has the power to intervene in Congress' workings? I would remind you that when Senator Thune's precious air base was on the list for closure, Thune threatened to vote against a major bill in retaliation. And that is a CONSERVATIVE senator!

Senators are answerable first of all to their constituents. They don't CARE what perfect conservatives think, because they are a very small part of the electorate.

So, tell me who you think will be the "perfect" president? Myself, I don't think we could ask for much more from the current one, who has pretty much done what he said he would do even though he is attacked daily by the democrats, the media, and the perfectionists in his own party who have no idea what goes on in Washington and who have NEVER held elected office.
