Sony Playstation (PS3) sells for $3600.00 on eBay

As my grandmother used to say: "It's not the whole world gone mad... just the people in it."

When bidding ended it sold for $3,600.

Not that it's really my business that someone is willing to pay thirty-six hundred dollars for a PlayStation 3. But this really does seem to be materialism at its worst to me. The Xbox 360 has been out for a year but it'll probably still be another year before we get one: by then it'll be a lot more inexpensive, many more games will have been published for it, and at that point most if not all of the bugs will have been ironed out. To buy a high-end game system - or any other sophisticated piece of electronics - at launch is to welcome all the technical glitches that are probably still in the product.

There's more important things in life than waiting in line for a week at the local Best Buy for a game console... that may not even be in stock anymore by the time you get to the counter. And someone doesn't need to have the latest bleeding-edge toys to have fun.

(Now, I probably wouldn't mind a crack at a Nintendo Wii: much lower-priced, and its controller is really one of the most innovative things I've seen come from the video-game industry in quite a while... but I can still hold off on getting one.)

Some dude that's all ready bought AT LEAST 5 of them, just paid OVER $15K for another one! Check out the other thread!

Apparently he was posting phony bids. Probably thought he was having fun posting outrageous prices for Playstations he had no intention of paying for.

That's what I was thinking! I know there's some stupid people out there, but that's RIDICULOUS!

I'll bet he had a heart attack when he found out that legally they can make him pay for those bids he made.

From what I actually saw on the bids that he made... So far he owes people OVER $75,000!

Those are only the ones that I actually saw! I wonder how many other ones he made.

I'll bet the people are just going to resell them to avoid the hassle of trying to go after him.

How about this one? Starting bid $45K, or buy it now for $500K?

Hey, dont get on his case. He's offering free shipping as well. You cant get any better than that.

And look: He's giving away 75 percent of the sale price to the Red Cross!

So lets see.....if it goes for 45 thousand, the Red Cross gets $33,750.00, and he only keeps 11,250 bucks! And dont forget: FREE SHIPPING!

And if it goes for 500 thousand, 125 thousand for him, 375 thousand for the Red Cross! And stil FREE SHIPPING! This guy is oh so generous.

If I were Sony, I'd arrange for several eBay shill sales at outrageous prices just to feed the hype-apalooza.

"Questions from other members : SONY PLAYSTATION 3 CONSOLE 60GB PS3 PREMIUM - FREE S&H!"

Are you serious or just extremely retarded? Nov-17-06
A: Completely serious and very passionate about helping the world.

And very greedy. 11,250-125,000 for himself? I can see paying out that kind of money to help a worthy cause if I was rich, and if his profit margin was nil. I'm not about to give him somewhere in the neighborhood of 11,250-125 thousand.

PS: I'm not against the guy making a profit for his PS3. But I could (that is if I could. I dont have this kind of money) buy a PS3 for a much cheaper price and send that additional 11,250 (or 125 thousand) to my favorite charity instead of to his pocket.

Or you could send the entire $45,000 to the American Red Cross (or some other charity) and then use the value of the tax write-off to buy a PS3. Or better yet, buy a good game machine like the Atari 2600 along with some 21st-century releases for it.

Out of curiosity, I wonder why Sony didn't start out selling a Limited Edition console for $1,000 and then sell the general release for the normal price once manufacturing was up to speed? To sell goods at prices low enough to create guaranteed shortages seems strange.
