Pope Benedict is starting to give me reasons to rejoin the Catholic Faith. If there is such a thing as speaking truth to power then he is fully committed to such a course. No namby pamby beating around the bushes, he goes straight for the central issue regarding Islams dealings with the West. The debate about whether Islam can be reformed enough must center around Mohammed himself, his life, his example, since Islam revolves around him. If Mohammed was a radical then exactly how is the religion to reform itself without losing its soul.

Thanks for that link.
As Clint Eastwood said, 'Dyin' ain't much of a living'
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
Sounds right on the money to me. What's wrong with it?
The history of Islamic victories is the parade of capitulations by tired, demonalized, weakened, internally paralyzed societies.
Like a bacterial infection, Islam spreads in an sick host - not in a well one.
Bump for later read!
Their fame and stardom career. It's been going bonkers these past few years for Muslims.
Disaffected youth, rebelling against their Christian Conservative parents, have been converting to Islam like crazy. The Muzzies take the number 1 or number 2 billing on the prime time news shows nearly every night. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart even sought out and hired a Muslim reporter/comedian. Look at all the Hollywood stars lining up to talk about how great the Muslims are and how bad mean ol' President Bush is. The Muslims are really hot on college campuses right now, too. Especially the Ivy League colleges.
People are protesting for them, people are protesting against them, people are drawing editorial cartoons about them.
Thousands of soldiers from the U.S. and allied nations have gone to the Middle East ... all for the Muzzies.
All this attention is really helping their career and bringing Islam back to the forefront of the world.
Of course, trashing the Pope makes it all pretty untenable now. Some folks let the fame and fortune go to their heads and they think they're untouchable. I realize it's a different Pope, and maybe since this one has already come under fire from the liberals for being a "Nazi" the Muslims can weather whatever storm comes along from this. We'll just have to see how bad their second album is.
The Church does not exist to be "politically correct."
The Pope was speaking to his own and giving them reason to consider the times in which we live.
I believe there was no other reason for his words.
It's better to appreciate that than to complain "why not more?"
What? Pope Benedict has taken a firm stand, not only against "radical" islam, but against islam itself. This is something neither Bush nor any other Western leader has the guts to do. Just recently the Holy Father stated that "islam and democracy will never mix until islam decides to reinterpret the koran", (paraphrase). That, my friend, is a complete condemnation of all of islam. The man in the White House still calls them a "religion of peace", and he commands the greatest army on earth. Even with all this might behind him, President Bush will quote that Greek philosopher who called Islam "brutal and inhuman" when Hell freezes over. Islam is on fire, literally, because of the Pope's words and his stance, and you have the b@lls to say the Pope isn't taking a stand? Pure ignorance on your part.
If you are looking, however, for the Pope to give instruction, courage and leadership to the West's timid leaders, I think he does that rather wonderfully, as a religious leader; but most of the West's leaders are self-styled 'born agains' or other non-Catholics who aren't looking to the Pope for political or spiritual guidance in the first place, nor would they follow it if offered. But hey, this is Free Republic, where the majority of members seem to be anti-Catholic bigots anyway, so fire away at the only leader on earth with the b@lls to call islam what it really is, "brutal and inhuman".
We are at war. Where does our spiritual leader stand in relationship to that war? The focus of this war is reminiscent of the muslim invasion of Europe in the middle ages. We need someone to wake us up, not reassure us that everything can be peacefully resolved. If there is one thing that has become crystal clear in the last several years it's that the conflict between radical islam and Christianity cannot be peacefully resolved. The Pope is in the crosshairs of islamofacists. I believe the only reason they do not actively attempt his assassination is because they realize they have not yet infiltrated and marginalized Christianity adequately yet.
I have been a practicing Catholic for 50 years.
19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Your article is most welcome and spot on IMHO. Welcome to FR.
I am not a member of his blog, so I did not review his other posts on the site, but I was curious as to why he called it the "14th" meltdown. What were the other 13?
Real "practicing" Catholics don't tell the Pope how to do his job.
Yes they do. The Pope is infallible in matters of interpretation of the scriptures and in that context he has no peer and deserves no criticism. In all other matters he is as fallible as I and as such is subject to criticism. Your critical assessment of a "practicing" Catholic tells me a lot. Any Catholic who shares in the bread is equal in the eyes of the church and should beware any who claim more piety.
GOD BLESS POPE BENEDICT!! There goes his trip to Turkey!! better get those swiss guards around him!!
