I think this whole genius thing is misunderstood. Someone can be a genius in one area and a complete DUnce in other areas. A lot of it depends on where your interests are. For example, I am totally fascinated by history and think I have a good grasp on it although everytime I really think that I find out much more that I don't know. OTOH, I have NO musical ability. My Mom even had me take guitar lessons when I was a kid but I have NO musical ability whatsoever. I see this a lot.
Looks like a big purse to me. In fact, it looks much more like a purse than a Handy Pack.
Actually, on the DU gerbil exam I think it's "Gloved hand is to prostate exam as fist is to ..."
I was bored in school, so I spent my time reading technical manuals, working on the family farm, and racing motocross and enduros. (If I was in school today, I'd probably be diagnosed with "ADD and be on Ritalin.) I kept my mind and my hands OCCUPIED, so my 140+ IQ could be satisfied. I didn't depend on the schools or the government to educate me, I did a lot of it on my own.
I may or may not be "gifted", but I sure as h*ll ain't no DUmmie!
I knew I would have to earn a living some day, so I taught myself electronics after earning a BA in theology and got a job servicing two-way radio. After thirty years, I am in computers, networking, and SQL database management. I was never angry about my "giftedness" and only wished I had been wacked with the math gift wand rather than the words wand. What does it matter? I earn a very comfortable living and have many thoughtful, intelligent, sensible and rational friends, and an intelligent, lovely wife who disagrees with me adamantly about dangling prepositions, something up with which I will not put.
Reading these DU denizens was astonishing. Liberal snobs all, too complex to be happy, looking down on everyone else.
I wonder if any of them is useful and productive today, or are they on the disability dole?
Is that dependent on what the meaning of "is" is?
This is true of everyone to greater or lesser degree. My math skills are pretty good and, like you, history (American...especially the Civil War and 'Wild' West) is a favorite of mine. OTOH there are other facts of life I'd be better off leaving alone. Don't ask me to pull an engine block or go fishing.
The big difference though, is that a strong part of our knowledge has been developed by involvement and being successful in things we enjoy doing. To many of these DU'ers, they've never crossed into the realm of making their interests pay. They expect the government to provide what they're 'entitled' to. When they don't get what they want it's someone else's fault.
The DUFU just screams for this particular cartoon.
SOMEONE NEEDS TO PHOTOSHOP THE DARN THING. You know - play with the sign, put a Kerry/Edwards logo somewhere etc

Sounds like they all came from Lake Wobegon where, "the women are strong, the men are good looking, and all the children are above average."
Oh dear. She doesn't throw the poisoned coffee remark at you too often, I hope... Winston?
Oh dear, no. She is most kind.
I already have to carry the mail bag, I don't need anything else to haul around....
I think he left the "0" off the end of the "4"...
I love that!
