U.S. District Judge Fernando Gaitan Jr. halted executions in Missouri until the state makes sweeping changes to ensure that inmates do not suffer when they are put to death. The judge cited "numerous problems" with the state's lethal injections, including the use of possibly nonsterile needles, inadequate heating and/or air conditioning, and a generally depressing atmosphere.
"The nonsterile conditions are especially egregious since they could lead to these prisoners getting infections," said Gaitan. "Improperly set thermostats inflict unnecessary suffering. You know how it is when a room is too cold or too hot. You just can't be comfortable."
Gaitan said these deficiencies subject condemned inmates to unconstitutional pain and suffering. Ruling in the case of condemned axe-murderer Chip Morely, he gave the Department of Corrections until July 15 to come up with some changes, and said no executions can occur until he reviews and approves them.
"As for the depressing atmosphere, they could try some drapes, softer lighting and maybe some mood music," said Gaitan. "It's the little things that help make for a more pleasant all around experience."
Morely, who slew a family of four in a car-jacking robbery, said he was encouraged by the ruling. "These conditions are inhumane and savage. They show no consideration for my feelings. I don't deserve such cruel treatment."

Disgusting.
They need to fix the problem, then try it out on this idiot judge. He will be able to report back if the problem has been solved.
It's pretty clear the judge didn't think this thing out very far. Is that symptomatic of excess MJ consumption, or "blue ice"?
HA HA HA! I agree with you!
Almost had me there.....
Just any idiot can be a judge it appears, I have a hunch that this judge isnt an exception rather the rule!
Oh, The Horror!! I'd really hate to die with the use of a non-sterile needle.
P.S. Interested in a Freeper in Congress? Keep in touch with me.
Congressman Billybob
Ya had me for a minute, there! LOL!
I think you might be right. This all sounds like a too-clever parody of those who oppose capital punishment.
I definitely think some judges have such an agenda but I don't think they're stupid enough to go on the record with such idiotic remarks. What are we missing?
This post is too clevor by half!
I could respect a full frontal assault on capital punishment based on ethical principles.
What is ridiculous are the oblique attacks based on the notion that the execution method is cruel. In this regard, the government has gone further toward avoiding unnecessary pain than any of the murderers have.
I agree. There are certainly reasons one can oppose capital punishment but this appears to be a "technicality" judicial ruse.
