Alot of people are harping on the Liberal undertones of the new Superman movie. I see something else. I see conservative values creeping into Hollywood.
This Lois is no slut. She has been getting knocked around for being an unwed mother but lets look at the facts of the story. In Superman 2 Lois and Clark get married and have sex while he is human. Lois' memory of those events are wiped clean and Superman leaves (Superman 3&4 never happened). Ok Lois ends up pregnant and the man that made her that way is gone. What does she do? Does she run out and get on welfare? No she finds a man and gets engaged Thats the right thing to do. When Superman comes back does she just throw away the fiancee that has raised her son and jump into Superman's arms like he wants her to do. No, she calls her fiancee a good man and for the sake of her son stays with a man she does not love as much as she loves superman. My GOD that is a conservative value. Everyone attacking this movie for Lois having a child out of wedlock are wrong.
Now Superman going off to Krypton for ficve years and leaving Lois. If you were the last person alive and you thought just maybe you could find more people would you go look. What happened in Superman 2 convinced Clark he could never be with Lois (although he has changed his mind since) so he goes and looks for others like him.
I could not tell if the filmmaker was making this a Christian Allegory or mocking Christian allegories. There is so much of the religious in this movie.
Superman tells Lois at one point. "You said the world doesn't need salvation but why do I hear the world calling out for a savior."
There is the scene about the Father being the Son and the Son being the Father.
The scene where Superman is stabbed in his side and his beating were straight out of the passion.
There is just scene after scene where Superman is shown as a Christ figure and it isn't a mistake these things are there intentionally. Despite the fact that this was made by serious leftists and religion haters I felt a very religious reaction to the movie. I think maybe the film maker tried to mock Christ and in doing so created a movie that really uplifts. Much like Lion the witch and the wardrobe is allegory the story seems so right.
I remember out on the west coast they had $2 movies, like 6 months after the first run. Personally, I can't stand movie theaters, and I really don't care if the screen is big. To me there's no better place to watch a movie than home. No obnoxious people to deal with; I can pause or rewind. I can eat what I want, smoke what I want. I can understand going to the movies back in the mid 20th century, before we had tvs and dvds, etc. But now? Hey, glad you like it. I haven't been to a theater since last century.
Well, there's still something about going to a movie...at least for me.
With DVDs you can stop them, you can eat, you can this, you can that, and the movie loses something.
Plus I like the communal feeling in a theater and I never experience some of the stuff other people complain about.
PS Roger Ebert HATED this movie. That tells me something. His headline was "Atlas Yawned." That tells me something too.
There's a 2nd run theatre here for $1.50. But the tub of popcorn and two drinks is $10+.

I'm sorry, but no marriage ever took place. Clark Kent and Lois were pretending to a married couple on their honeymoon to do an investigative report on the homeymoon hotels at Niagara Falls. Clark/Superman accidentally reveals his secret to Lois. They fly to the Fortress of Solitude where he searches his soul and discusses his options with the ghost (in the machine) of his mother. He opts for mortality and then beds Lois. No sign of legal wedlock any where to be seen. The evil trio arrives...
In the movie, Lex is flush with cash to carry out his power-mad shenanigans after marrying wealthy (and much older) Gertude Vanderworth. When Mrs. Vanderworth dies, he gains control of the multibillion-dollar Vanderworth fortune, as well as a super-gaudy waterfront mansion and the Gertrude yacht.
Does this remind anyone here of a certain someone??????

Well hey, I'm glad someone enjoys it. I'm told they subject you to about 25 minutes of commercials nowadays before the actual movie starts, not counting the previews. I can tell you for me it's as if movie theaters don't exist. The thought of entering one never crosses my mind. I think of them as a 20th century relic. But that's just me. I'm glad you enjoy it. I like for people to enjoy themselves. That tends to make them happier and that makes the world a little less of a hassle, for the most part.

I didnt notice the John Kerry/Lex Luthor connection until you mentioned it. Thats a good catch. If the yacht had been called the Scaramoche it would have been even better. I am wondering if there are anymore Kery/Luthor references and are we dealing with a director who is out of the closet on his gayness but in the closet on his conservatism? There are log cabin conservatives.

I saw the movie with my family. My dad thinks the Christ references (which I admit, were a bit heavy-handed) mocked Jesus. I thought of it as an interesting kind of tribute.
Yes, that was nice! There were lots of fun small moments in the movie. I also liked the moment when the boy seemed to recognize Clark looked a lot like Supes, but had to reach for his inhaler.
And to whoever said it, NO, you can't just a movie by the internet buzz, pro or con. I've found myself going to a movie and getting a very different impression of it than did folks whose taste I most often trust. That's the way it is with entertainment.
I think that inflatable silver Krytponian bed in Superman II was actually a licensed intergalactic minister who married them while they were otherwise engaged (ahem).
