The hologram (nickel) was also fried and is now unreadable. So, now a retailer can not tell if this card is valid, or fraudelent. Thus, a retailer SHOULD deny this individual the use of the card.
The card does NOT belong to you, it never has belonged to you, and it never will belong to you. The card is issued in your name, however the card is and remains the property of the lending institution. That's why they can demand the card back.

If you cover your hat with tin foil this will also block RFID tags. You say what what about the other RFID tags. Cover all your clothes with tin foil and get a friend to dress like a scarecrow and a loin. They will think your from Kansas and ignore the strange customs. Wall-mart doesn't have enough profit margin to play with toys like this. Groceries stores never wear anything you bought at a grocery back into the store. How many still use those little cards. Enough said.
