Some Common Sense On Abortion
From Sea to Shining Sea ^ | 1/27/06 | Purple Mountains

Of course, what I see as common sense will probably infuriate some who disagree. I have already disappointed and angered some of my conservative friends because, although I will work tirelessly to reverse Roe vs. Wade, I favor no restrictions on first-trimester abortion. Some see this as a contradictory position, but perhaps they do not realize what the Roe vs. Wade decision opened up in this country, nor do they really understand what was in store for many women before abortion became legal.

Is the baby a grapefruit on day 90 and then a human being on day 91?

Is a chap 17 years and 364 days old, an irresponsible teen ager with raging hormones, a punk unfit to enter contracts, vote, or much else, except drive and watch R rated movies, or enter the armed services, but with the elapse of one day, a mature and composed and sensible adult, fit for all the responsibilities of adult life, except booze?

The chap could have joined the armed forces 364 days ago and any chap wearing a uniform is old enough to have a beer, wouldn't you think?

No, not unless in fact in the military (just a little perk). I also don't think folks should vote under 21 unless they hold a full time job. I suggested that while in college, when the Dems pushed through the 18 year old vote, in an attempt to get a tailwind in the Vietnam era. My position was not popular in my dorm. :)

Gotta go but I'll leave you with this. Liberty interests are and always have been negotiable through the ballot box, fundamental rights have likewise run the same course but should not have.

But I like your voting rights act. Adios kemosabe, Embrace the Continuum!:-}

Interesting article.

Let me add some more unpopular opinions:

1. Healthy, intelligent, conservative white women should be denied the "right" to an abortion. Everybody else gets a free abortion on demand, even late term.*

*Note that the above cannot be racist if abortion is, as the Left claims, a social good.

2. Any woman capable of killing her unborn child should do so. The lack of a maternal instinct is a trait we should breed out of the gene pool.

3. In the case of rape (especially child rape) or incest, abortion should be a requirement and not an option. Again, these are traits we need to breed out of the gene pool.
