(Vanity) Folding@Home FReepers - A Tribute to Ronald Reagan
Self ^ | 01/15/06 | Texas Booster

Posted on 01/15/2006 9:32:31 AM PST by texas booster

OK, new thread for the next week.

First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.

Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 456 processors and 209 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over a dozen folders now from GetLoaded.com all popping onto the hit list this week.

Special mention to Klutz Dohanger, who has quietly volunteered over 100 systems to fold. That is 20% of all of the Free Republic Folders systems actively engaged in research. Klutz is the first to earn 100,000 points.

We now have ten members who have contributed at least 10,000 points each. Malsua, Ken in Texas, Andrewksu, LSimpson and kingu have all reached this milestone, and Uriah will join them next week. Great job!

Even more impressive, our team now boasts 113 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of CPUs folding for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!

Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page

On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 487. We are poised to overtake (today):

MaximumCPU (these guys are serious overclockers)
BadgerBadgerBadger
ECU-SCIS-Cluster (82 CPU cluster in Australia)
BensCustomCases
Greenland HS in Winslow, AR Tech Labs
and the Univ of Stoney Brook Math Club, Stoney Brook NY

As we continue to grow there are a number of milestones coming around the bend:

Top 400 by next Friday
Top 300 by the end of the month

We have 610,000 points so far and have folded over 5,000 WU. We will reach:

750,000 points by Jan 24
1,000,000 points by mid February

Thanks again to all that are helping us advance science and promote the peaceful use of computers.

I am not around my fastest rig from Sat. night to Monday afternoon. It always needs a reboot to get going again. It seems that the IP does service on this commercial line during that time frame and F@H can't get online to dump a WU and get a new one. I have two at home that I now have the kids reboot if they can't get online, (same IP), so that is no longer a problem during the week. I hope you find your lost CPU's.

FRegards,
DocRock

The team point output yesterday of 24,706 seems relatively low and strange to me. That's darn near the equivalent of the Jan 3rd output. And we've added almost 40 new folders since then!? It should have been higher IMHO. What it tells me is that an awful lot of CPUs are offline for one reason or another. Either they've dropped out for good which is fine, or they are offline for repair, or whatever. Perhaps it was just a freak.

No matter...we continue to grow and that's way cool. Fold on!

Now we just need a booster so we can sit on the front porch while online. Pitiful, ain't it?

Not at all. For me, it was the back porch :)

Check your access point and see if it can function as a repeater. You may find it's cheaper and easier to simply set up another AP as a repeater than it is to mess about with signal boosters and exotic antennas and the like...

Freak, most likely. Take a look at the graph for my personal daily production:

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=168214

Notice how it bounces up and down from day to day. I've got a couple of boxes running, and what's happening is that they're in and out of sync with each other as far as reporting results goes. The high days are days when most or all of them checked in with a result, and the low days are days when maybe only one or two reported in. Plus, some days they report big points, and some days they report small points.

And everybody's daily graphs will look like that, bouncing around between highs and lows, because of the variable points and the variable amount of time it takes to complete each one. Take that same phenomenon and extrapolate it to everyone, and what likely happened was that that particular day was just a "down" day for a lot of the team. Sheer coincidence, but over the course of the week, those bounces will smooth out to something resembling average production, so my guess is that looking at weekly production will give us a truer picture of what's happening with the team.

Someone pointed out a few days ago that the number of 600 pointer Wus handed out has been reduced. I know that in my case my point ouput per week has significantly dropped since I have but one 600 pointer going instead of the five or six previously. FAH has indicated that the 600 pointers in the 1140-1150 # range were given approximately double the points/cpu cycle at some point in the distant past. If one is running 50% 600 pointers (by time), one's output would be up 50% over otherwise.

I seem to be having problems running this.
I have 3 linux boxes and none of them seem to to run the client. It gets to this point:

[02:58:57] Completed 0 out of 500000 steps (0%)

And stops. I do have a firewall and it may be stopping it.

Any ideas?

The above linux forum may have some insights for ya. I'll look with ya. Can you post all of the log? Also what flavor of Linux are you running? I can see why it doesn't work on you P166 but it should work on your other box.

I know very little of the penguin culture. We'll need to ask for help from our experts in the field.

My best guess is to turn off all firewalls and run naked to the wind, and see what happens besides freezing sensitive body parts.

I am amazed that we have 120 members with over 1000 points. That is incredible!

Meanwhile, over at the DUmmies place ...

ZZZZ's.

Well, they finally broke the 2000th place barrier and are now listed on ExtremeOverclockers. Easier to watch them fall further behind like that, while they think they are catching up. Yuk, yuk...
