OK, new thread for the next week.
First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.
Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 456 processors and 209 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over a dozen folders now from GetLoaded.com all popping onto the hit list this week.
Special mention to Klutz Dohanger, who has quietly volunteered over 100 systems to fold. That is 20% of all of the Free Republic Folders systems actively engaged in research. Klutz is the first to earn 100,000 points.
We now have ten members who have contributed at least 10,000 points each. Malsua, Ken in Texas, Andrewksu, LSimpson and kingu have all reached this milestone, and Uriah will join them next week. Great job!
Even more impressive, our team now boasts 113 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of CPUs folding for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!
Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page
On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 487. We are poised to overtake (today):
MaximumCPU (these guys are serious overclockers)
BadgerBadgerBadger
ECU-SCIS-Cluster (82 CPU cluster in Australia)
BensCustomCases
Greenland HS in Winslow, AR Tech Labs
and the Univ of Stoney Brook Math Club, Stoney Brook NY
As we continue to grow there are a number of milestones coming around the bend:
Top 400 by next Friday
Top 300 by the end of the month
We have 610,000 points so far and have folded over 5,000 WU. We will reach:
750,000 points by Jan 24
1,000,000 points by mid February
Thanks again to all that are helping us advance science and promote the peaceful use of computers.
Extreme Overclockers Stats for Free Republic ^
1.2GHz Athlon 4 Palomino (Laptop)
700MHz Athlon K7
500MHz Pentium 3
400MHz K6-2
I have some that I tried to add: 1.1GHz Athlon, 333MHz K6-2, 100MHz P5, but they are dead.
I may be able to add newer computers by next month. My best machines have few idle cycles right now.
Two lesser machines that I may be able to add when idle:
2.4GHz Athlon 64 San Diego
2.0GHz Athlon 64 Venice
Every CPU helps -- every single point moves us higher!
You mean they want to join us?

I happened to be leafing through the forums this morning and ran across some discussion of that phenomenon, actually. I haven't seen it myself, but apparently the QMD core bails when something goes awry. It could be the unit itself is "unstable", and therefore it'll happen to anyone who gets that unit to work on. Or it could be that your machine is unstable - the fact that you're overclocking suggests that you might want to watch it for a while and see if it's happening repeatedly. If not, don't worry about it. If it is, you might think about dialing back on the CPU a bit.
Got it running smooth on all 3 CPU's now. Just had to tweak it a little.
Yes - at first I thot I had "lost another one". But it looks like I got credit and got a 5MM steps unit to crunch on in return - at frame 289 and working on one laptop (IBM T-23) and working on frame 353 of 400 total on the G4 166 PwrBook.
Wish there was an OS9 client - I could bring on 2 more CPUs.

And a question to ShadowSnake...Dude, how did you get a WU without any points?????????
It's happened to me twice over the past 3 weeks or so. I haven't worried about it. Nothing else shows wrong with the machine except running a little warm.
Dude. RE #60, I feel so disorganized :-) I can't even remember which model cpu I put into one of my boxes.
All this talk of cooling made me look at my P4D@3Ghz which has been cranking for probably around a month now. CPU was at 74C. argh.
This case has 5x80mm fans, cpu fan and pwr supply. Power supply is an Antec 480. Video BFG 6600GT, Adaptec 29160 SCSI card and 4x512 OCZ6400.
Cleaned a little dust from around the intakes and removed one of the low 80mm fans (tower system). I then hooked-up a 120mm fan in the 5.25 drive bays to blow over the cpu. I've done this before with another box and was able to OC from 2.8Ghz to 3.6GHz. Blew the built-in lan adapter but she still humming away with a new one!
Not overclocking here but my temps have dropped now to 64C which I'm comfortable with. Though I'll probably look to make some improvements here in the near future.

Bummer, there were no points updated in the 9:00 hour. This means a double portion in the 12:00 update!
We will be over 700,000 points. Our daily updates now range between 24,000 and 33,000 points. As the average points per day goes up then we will know future production verses competitors.
Meanwhile our moonbat brothers and earth sisters are listed as NUMBER ONE of 49,000 teams in Daily Team Change.
They have risen from 1,999 to 1,914 place as a team. That's passing 86 other teams in just one day.
Way to go DU!
(Now back to our regular programming.)
I have seen that happen, but have no explanation for it other than "corrupt folding".
Maybe the diagnostic for determining corruption is too sensitive, or there is a possible memory conflict in your system.
Have no idea why new, fast systems keep getting small work units. I like 600 point folds. Maybe Stanford is reloading to get us some larger WU, or maybe they have decided that too many of the large WUs don't complete in time.
I've been looking at their "star" performers. They have one, "conjur" that has been moving up fast with 7 cpu's. He'll be their # 1 guy today or tomorrow. He's currently at just under 9k in points. 1st and 2nd are neck and neck and 3rd place is 5000 points off of that. Which, basically, means that any of our members in our top 13 would be # 1 over there. 13 through 17 would make 2nd or so, and the rest would make it an avalanche.
That said though, they are gaining momentum, good on them for that.
:O)
