Bush's Lies ...Barbra Streisand Posted on December 19, 2005

Bush’s Lies On December 14, 2005 Bush gave a speech concerning the situation we are facing in Iraq. Recently, public support for the war has plummeted (the latest CBS news poll shows that 60% of Americans support decreasing our troop levels or bringing our troops home now) and the President has endured record low approval ratings. Finally the country is beginning to vocalize their anger and disapproval for the dishonest leadership of President Bush and his administration. In an effort to salvage any political capitol he can, Bush set out to convince the American public that the war in Iraq was not only necessary, but that we are close to victory in our efforts to spread democracy in the Middle East. Being that both these sentiments are far from truthful, I was not surprised by the number of falsehoods and half truths that pervaded his speech. I wanted to highlight some of them since many of the major media outlets have failed to do so.

Bush’s Lie: At any point along the way, Saddam Hussein could have avoided war by complying with the just demands of the international community. The United States did not choose war. The choice was Saddam Hussein's.

Truth: Iraq maintained that they had destroyed their stockpiles of illicit weapons. During UN investigations, Iraq handed over to inspectors 12,000 pages and several compact discs that describe the country's arms programs and its elimination before and after 1990. The US claimed that they had translation problems because of the length of the material. It is hard to believe that a county as developed as the United States can not find an accurate translator. In order to avert going to war with the United States, Saddam permitted US troops and experts to do a thorough search of Iraq. However, it was the Bush Administration that was determined to wage a war with Iraq regardless of the lack of evidence presented to them.

Bush’s Lie: “In the war on terror, Iraq is now the central front.”

Truth: Iraq and Saddam were not responsible for 9/11. Al Qaeda, headquartered in Afghanistan and led by Osama bin Laden, masterminded and carried out the biggest terrorist attack in US history. Thirteen of the fifteen hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Since the United States invaded Iraq under false pretenses over 2 years ago, the Administration has created a terrorist breeding ground that will have serious implications on our national security in the future.

Bush’s Lie: “When a unanimous Security Council gave [Saddam] one final chance to disclose and disarm or face serious consequences, he refused to comply with that final opportunity.”

Truth: UN inspectors, headed first by David Kay and later by Charles Duelfer, and head of Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei reported that they could not find stockpiles of chemical or biological weapons in Iraq after months and months of searching. The inspectors, along with other members of the international community, asked for more time to investigate, but the Administration indicated they were not willing to wait for the evidence. The Administration prematurely pulled UN inspectors out because they were determined to invade Iraq and nothing was going to stop them.

Bush’s Lie: “September 11 also changed the way I viewed threats like Saddam Hussein…We cannot allow the world's most dangerous men to get their hands on the world's most dangerous weapons…In an age of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, if we wait for threats to fully materialize, we will have waited too long.”

Truth: As the United States continues to have its attention and resources concentrated on winning the war in Iraq, North Korea and Iran have developed their nuclear and biological weapons programs. Many scholars feel that North Korea poses the greatest potential and actual threat to the United States. Some experts believe that Iran’s nuclear weapons program has now become operational as well.

The Administration has failed in its non-proliferation efforts around the world. And by not preventing North Korea and Iran from strengthening their nuclear positions, they have undermined America’s national security.

Bush’s Lie: “Iraqis will go to the polls to choose a government that will be the only constitutional democracy in the Arab world. Yet we need to remember that these elections are also a vital part of a broader strategy for protecting the American people against the threat of terrorism.”

Truth: Although the Administration has put their support toward Ayad Allawi and the formation of a secular government in Iraq, the chances of that occurring are slim. Many scholars of the Middle East believe that the Shiite religious majority will ultimately do very well in the election and probably continue to suppress the voice of the Sunni and Kurd minorities. American officials are hoping for a significant display of support for Allawi as a secular leader in order to avoid the creation of a theocratic government, which could mean fewer rights for women and a more fundamentalist Islamic society than before. We will see how this plays out.

Bush’s Lie: “Today, many cities like Mosul and Najaf are coming back to life, and Iraq's economy is growing.”

Truth: In direct contrast to Bush’s statement, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times reported that both Mosul and Najaf still face continued security issues as well as religious and ethnic tensions. The Post stated that in “Najaf militia fighters of the two rival religious parties that control the Shiite holy city recently clashed in street battles. This month, former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi was attacked during a visit by an angry, rock-throwing mob that some Iraqis charge was backed by a militia. In Mosul, police are still heavily backed by American firepower and Sunni police are sharply at odds with the Kurd-dominated Iraqi Army in the north.

I have brought attention to just a few of the lies and inaccuracies I caught while listening to the President’s final attempt at convincing the public that the Administration has a strategy for victory in Iraq. The only parcel of truth I felt the President conveyed that morning to Americans was that much of the intelligence he used to make a case for the war turned out to be wrong and that he is responsible for the decision to go into Iraq. Unfortunately, he is 2 1/2 years too late in accepting the blame.

These dolts must be throwing fits because Bush's approval rating is going up. Rasmussen indicates that it's at 50 percent right now. But then again, the Left just ignors any news that places Bush in a more favorable light.

The sad thing is that Bush and his evil cronies have fooled the thousands of otherwise intelligent FReepers. How wonderful that this wisecracking washed up singer can enlighten us. I am so grateful for her informative website I could just puke with gratitude.

She always seems to have typos in her futile rants.

You don't have to be educated to sing...and in her case, we can also see that you don't have to be smart.

Yeah, a big snozzed rich idiot!! I can honestly say I would not trade my common sense and intelligence for all of her money and arrogant ignorance. She is dependent on Hollyworld, and I am somewhat self-sufficient, geee, who will survive better in a "world state of emergency"?? I bet she can't hunt worth a damn, let alone walk a few miles in the wilderness, and forget starting a fire. She would starve!!! But Bush lied...shut up, and don't sing ever again.

Is Streisand senile?

These Truths and Lies have nothing to do with each other. Proving that someone has lied requires proving both the falsehood of a statement and an intent to deceive. Streisand not only fails to do either, she fails to even try.

Lie #1: Bush lied when he said that Saddam could have stopped the U.S. invasion.
Truth #1: No WMD were found in Iraq.

Lie #2: Iraq is now at the center of the war on terror.
Truth #2: Iraq was not responsible for 9-11.

Lie #3: (See Lie #1)
Truth #3: (See Truth #1)

Lie #4: Bush believes that WMD should remain out of the hands of “dangerous men”.
Truth #4: Some dangerous men are developing WMD.

Lie #5: Democracy in Iraq is good for Iraq and good for America.
Truth #5: Democracy might not work in Iraq.

Lie #6: Iraq’s economy is recovering.
Truth #6: Iraq still has security problems.

None of the Truths address the Lies. This is so pathetic that it is not even worth addressing her obvious distortions.

OK Babs, its your turn:

Er, point of order, Mr. Chairman.

Miss Streisand has appeared in 17 films over the course of her lifetime and in all of them, she has NEVER acted. Therefore, Miss Streisand is NO actress.

I don't know, Streisand sure acted like she deserved an Oscar for "Lentil," her story of a vegetable disguised as a singer.

So the story goes, it was Streisand who pushed hard to get Robert Redford for the lead in the film The Way We Were. The word is, she just wanted to be near the golden goyboy. Redford is an instinctive actor and he found it heavy going dealing with Streisand’s need to examine and reexamine every move and motivation. Redford later described his experience of working with Barbra as “doing overtime in Dachau.” Barbie is a control freak.

Streisand is still trying to direct and control, but now she wants to direct the Democratic Party. Because she is such a productive fund raiser for the Democrats, none of them has the nerve to tell her to shut up; no one wants to send her sobbing to her dressing room where she might just sit and pout instead of raising more funds. Money is, after all, the mother’s milk of politics and Streisand has proven to be one amazing wet nurse. She raised a cool million for Walter Mondale back in 1984, but nothing could save Mondale.

Streisand headlined at a 2002 Democratic National Gala which brought in over six million dollars, providing a boost to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s effort to retake the House in the upcoming November elections. House Minority Leader, Dick Gephardt gave a get-out-the-vote speech. Streisand performed a mutant version of The Way We Were, with twisted lyrics interspersed with political hysteria.

Streisand began: Mem’ries
Light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor mem’ries
Of the way we were.

She then mouths the words: “When I sing that song now, I can’t help but think about it politically.” It was all downhill from there. Doing what she does best, Babs proceeded to wallow in bathos.

Scatter pictures
Of the House we left behind
Lovely Democratic mem’ries
Of the way we were.

The rest was a sustained whine, interspersed with such paranoiac lines as: “I find George Bush and Dick Cheney frightening . . .Donald Rumsfeld and John Ashcroft frightening.”

Streisand concluded her tortured rewrite of the nostalgic 1973 song with the stanzas:

So on
Next Election Day I pray
That the country will deliver,
A House without Tom Delay!
We need a team change
A definite regime change.
Oh, that would be a dream change
From the way we are.

So, in November
Let’s make the Congress
A Democratic Congress
The way we were
The way we were!

How sad. Nostalgia is a mild form of depression. Barbra’s depression, together with her lifelong paranoia, would excite some sympathy if we didn’t have our own distinct mem’ries of the way we were during Bill Clinton’s eight-year-long betrayal of our trust. Barbra pines for the good old days when Bill was bombing Bosnia, when he was lying to the public (Our troops will be home from Bosnia by Christmas; I did not have sex with that star struck youngster), when he was wasting cruise missiles on empty training camps and an aspirin factory, when Bill turned down three offers to put Osama bin Laden in a U.S. prison cell, when Bill was transferring top-secret missile-guidance technology to China to improve their targeting of American cities, when Bill was accepting political contributions from the communist Chinese (thanks for the technology, Bill), when Clinton was raising the tax burden on struggling Americans to a record high and fending off numerous credible accusations of sexual abuse, including the forcible rape and disfigurement of Juanita Broderick. Billy the Kid turned the White House into a cash-generating Motel Six. He granted pardoned an undeserved pardon to criminal fugitive Marc Rich as thanks for political contributions and many other pardons to scores of other thugs and thieves who had greased the Democrats, all in the final hours of his administration. When they decamped, the Clintons looted the White House, stealing truckloads of publicly-owned treasure to feather their nest in Chappaqua.

That was the America Barbra Streisand longs to return to; she thinks that Republicans are frightening, but then again Babs is a life-long paranoiac.
