Semi-News: Ben Affleck Considering Role in Senate
AZCONSERVATIVE ^ | 9 Dec 2005 | John Semmens

Hollywood actor Ben Affleck is reportedly considering a run for the U.S. Senate from Virginia. Affleck is a Boston native with no real ties to Virginia. Affleck also represents the northeastern brand of liberalism, which may not appeal to many Virginians.

Nevertheless, Affleck says he is confident he could handle such a role. “I’m from Massachusetts where we’ve got Kennedy and Kerry, two of the greatest senators in American history,” said Affleck. “Everything I know about politics, I learned from listening to them. Kerry is the absolute master of the nuanced policy straddle. And no one attacks the character of an opponent like Kennedy. He is without peer.”

Affleck says his studies include watching videos of Senator Robert Byrd. “I know he’s from West Virginia,” said Affleck. “But his manner of speaking has a genuine southern flavor to it. I’ve also been practicing my southern accent. I think I can do a believable Virginia senator.”

Affleck feels the role will challenge him to the limits of his acting ability. Affleck says his experience playing a soldier in the 2001 film “Pearl Harbor” makes him virtually a veteran. “War heroes usually do well with voters,” said Affleck. “Seeing me fight the Japanese at Pearl Harbor will show Virginia voters that I can fight for them in congress.”

Affleck says he is also considering putting on some weight because “Southerners prefer their senators to be a bit portly.”

“I’m from Massachusetts where we’ve got Kennedy and Kerry, two of the greatest senators in American history,” said Affleck.

If that's how he feels, he should try New Jersey.

Ben Affleck is reportedly considering a run for the U.S. Senate from Virginia ...

Is there an open Senate seat in Virginia ... or, does Mr. Affleck think there are three?

Whose seat is he going to run for ... Sen. John Warner's ... or Sen. George Allen's?

Maybe if Sen. Allen is the Republican nomineee in 2008 there may be an open seat then.

Is there a residency requirement to run for the U.S. Senate in Virginia? If so, when and where does Mr. Affleck intend to take up residency?

Do we know anything about Affleck's involvement, if any, in drugs ... or is this just normal delusion?

Why does he believe that anyone in Virginia would vote for him? And, if so, why?

he actually brought up Pearl Harbor? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Pearl Harbor
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B00031TXTU001008/0/102-3296954-7699319

I miss you more then Michael Bay missed the mark
When he made Pearl Harbor
I miss you more than that movie missed the point
And that’s an awful lot girl
And now, now you’ve gone away
And all I’m trying to say is
Pearl Harbor sucked, and I miss you

I need u like Ben Affleck needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need u like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part
He’s way better than Ben Affleck
And now all I can think about is your smile
and that shitty movie too
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked
Just a little bit more than I miss you

Let him run. But he should at least run in New England (is it too late to give it back to Old England?). I guess the House is too small for his ego and the Dem senators we all know don't like to give up power.

I prefer it when non-politician activists actually run. At least their putting their money where their mouths are, sorta. I'm in a good mood today, so I'm being lenient.

“War heroes usually do well with voters,”
Yeah, just ask GHW Bush and Bob Dole.
Not to mention kerry, you know, the guy with the Bronze and Silver stars and 3 PHs (yes, he earned it thrice).

Someone should tell Ben Affleck that starring in Pearl Harbor does not make him a war hero.

He can stay in MA to run and probably do a lot better. After all, Kerry may retire to go on a suicidal presidential run.
