Tom Delay and Party of Lincoln Are Guilty As Charged (satire)

HOUSTON—In a desperate move to escape guilt, Representative Tom DeLay turned himself in Thursday at the Harris County sheriff’s office and was fingerprinted, photographed and released on $10,000 bail on conspiracy and money-laundering charges.

DeLay was accompanied by his lawyer Dick DeGuerin and arrived shortly after noon at a Harris County Sheriff’s Department facility at 49 San Jacinto. According to sheriff's Lt. John Martin, Representative Delay was booked like we would book any other Republicans involved in a scandal, like the criminal that they are.

Dick DeGuerin told reporters that DeLay was put through the process because of a political vendetta by Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, the Democrat who brought the case for justice and the working man in Texas.

The defense—in a weak attempt to escape the iron claws of justice—asked Judge Bob Perkins to step aside and for the trial to be moved out of Travis County, because Perkins has donated to causes and people opposed to DeLay and his impartiality might be questioned.

Delay surrendered in Harris County because state law even allows Republican perpetrators to surrender in any county. The special treatment allowed DeLay to escape the vulture-like reporters that lurked at Fort Bend County, DeLay’s home county.

Since the first day DeLay was indicted by a Travis County grand jury last month, his self-serving attorneys had been trying—to no avail— to avoid a public spectacle of him being arrested. However, Ronnie Earle and Travis County prosecutors played legal hardball Wednesday by having an arrest warrant issued for DeLay.

According to reports, the capias warrant by state District Judge Bob Perkins normally would have been a routine procedure in Texas after a person has been indicted on a felony. It requires that the defendant do a perp walk, be arrested, and have fingerprints and a mug shot taken.

When DeLay—like the scum that he is—was first indicted on Sep. 28, his lawyers convinced Earle to have District Judge Mike Lynch issue a summons, which would have legally allowed DeLay to avoid booking. Earle, however, decided against asking for a summons on a second indictment that was returned October 3, 2005.

“We believe Congressman Delay should be treated like everyone else,” Earle said. “In fact, he should be treated like the Republican that he is for robbing the people of Texas and America. The Party of Lincoln is guilty as charged! That’s why I’m indicting them.”

DeGuerin claimed that the arrest warrant was issued because the defense team for DeLay and co-defendants Jim Ellis and John Colyandro have spent the last two weeks filing briefs, claiming prosecutor misconduct by Earle.

“It’s retaliation plain and simple,” said DeGuerin. “It’s retaliation because we haven’t given any quarter. And now he didn’t get his perp wak. How do you like me now, Ronnie Earle? Was it painful not getting your perp walk?”

DeLay is reportedly accused of involvement with $190,000 in corporate money that was sent from a Texas committee to the Republican National Committee. The indictment, attacking the pockets of the Texas GOP, alleges that money was exchanged illegally for money that could be legally donated to seven candidates for the Texas House.

“Republicans should be ashamed of themselves, said Sen. Robert Byrd, D-WV. “But the mug shot was pretty, pretty, pretty.”

“It’s about time Republicans saw some justice,” said Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY. “They’ve been sticking it to America the last five years. I just wish I would’ve been there to say ‘book ‘em, Danno.’”

“I’m embarrassed and ashamed,” cried Sen. Susan Collins, R-ME. “Sometimes I just hate this party!”

“It looks like Representative DeLay took a walk on the wild side,” commented Sen. John McCain, R-AZ. “How do you like the wild side, Tom? This is exactly why we need moderation in the Republican Party, because of Republicans like you.”

“This is why I’m scared for my children and my grandchildren,” sobbed Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL. “Thank God we have more sense here in Illinois.”

“It’s Hammer time,” said Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-CA. “That’s what I think about when I look at the mug shot.”

As the mug shot gets posted all over the internet, shown throughout television and plastered in every newspaper, it appears all but over for the Party of Lincoln. Could it have been so simple to think that a lone prosecutor in Travis County could bring down an entire party?

Michelle Zodi, a 23-year old kindergarten teacher in New York, thought so. She noted that she was taking the mug shot to school and showing it to her students. “I’m going to tell them that this is what happens to you when you become a Republican.”

It seems that DeLay and the Republican Party are guilty, guilty, guilty. With the mug shot circling the globe, America is embarrassed and ensnared in yet another shameful scandal with a Republican at the helm. From the occupation of Iraq to the outing of a covert CIA agent, Republicans have been leaping from scandal to scandal, destroying conservatism in America and thrusting liberalism back to power.

The only thing Tom Delay is guilty of is being a Republican.

Is it just me, or does this not sound authentic?

Is this like scrappleface or something?

I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time getting past this first sentence. Would someone explain to me how turning oneself in amounts to trying to escape guilt so I can try to read the rest of this article?

Hillary just had to crow. Good, one more greased pig, she will have to dance on. Delay will be fully exonerated of this "ham sandwich" fiasco.

I see that now that I've gone to the source article. ;)
Perhaps it would have been apt to include that word in the excerpt...

What else would you expect a Democrat like McCain to say?
