I'm ready for the Republican above principle crowd to bash me. But if you do, please try and pick apart the analysis or give an alternate point. I'm looking for someone to help convince me it still matters and that we want to win in 2006. I don't need more flaming...I can get all that on the IT threads :-)

What about the country? If your give up strategy is adopted how many innocent Americans, Europeans, Israelis, Iraqis die so you can see the left implode again.

The price of your strategy is too high. The GOP should run as conservatives when they do they win.

With what the so-called republican congress (rather RINOcrat congress) has given us, having a socialist congress cannot be much worse. The RINOcrats are outspending any socialist democrats of the past 50 years anyway. Iraq is the only real issue they can stop $$$ for.

Why don't you try to win WITHOUT US, Bush basher?

The Conservative movement may benefit by losing the House and Senate in 2006. I’m not advocating that we campaign to lose; however, if you look at the ramifications of losing in 2006 the Conservatives have a better chance of winning in 2008. Note: I didn’t say the Republicans I said Conservatives.

You may sneer at those of us you sneering deride as not being "real, true conservatives." But we can win without you -- you cannot win without us.

The current batch of elected officials has sold out the principles of conservatism on far too many points. There are people who will flame you for not going lock step with the Republican party as they will point out that Democrats are bad for America. Frankly, with Bush/Rove's policies on immigration and vote buying to support local Republicans it's obvious that conservatism got the short end of the stick.

Supporting Spector over Toomey?

Continuing to back Lincoln Chaffee?

Threatening Tancredo?

I have ceased to care which of the major parties wins. I jumped ship after the "patriot" act, and have voted solidly third party ever since. I believed and rooted for the Republican party through the mid to late 90s, as it seemed they had something going on. I was too young at the time to realize that they would act just like dems once in power.

The saddest part, however, is seeing people here defend the socialism because it comes from a Republican. Pork barrel spending and big intrusive government is not acceptable under any party flag.

I hate to lose ANY time... let alone PLAN for it.

All I see right now is a lot of conservatives 'scratchin their collective heads and mumbling... “What happened?”

BS..........

If we lose in 2006, the dems will have control and will make the last 2 years of Bush's Presidency Hell. They will have subpoena power and be in charge of the agenda-- they would purposely thwart everything in the run up to '08 and, with the help of the media, would blame Bush for all problems. They would be happy to drive the country into the ground so Hillary could swoop in in '08. How effective was Papa Bush with a Democrat Congress? That sure didn't help him win in '92.

Losing elections in the hope of a backlash has never worked by the GOP before, with the exception of 94, and the reason why it worked in 94 was that Bill Clinton pushed thru Congress the largest tax increase in the history of the world. I don't think we can count on that happening again, nor would we wish it.

IMHO, the Republican Party has been infiltrated by the left.

Posing as 'moderates', they have slowly pushed the Party to the left.

Look at who is being talked about for 2008. McCain and Guilliani. Democrats in RINO skins!

The mere fact that they are being considered makes me ill!

Win or lose in '06 and '08, "my Republican Party" appears headed for extinction.

The Conservative movement may benefit by losing the House and Senate in 2006.

You can't lose credibility in politics faster than suggesting its best we lose power short term to maybe gain power long term.

I'm confused. First you say the Conservatives need to lose in 2006 to win in 2008. Then you say that you're talking about Conservatives, not Republicans. Last time I checked, there is a Conservative Party out there (at least in a few states), but to my knowledge Conservatives hold no (as in zero) US House or Senate seats. Since the alleged Democrat conservatives (of which there are a few), are not likely to band together with alleged Republicans conservatives (of which there are a few more), I don't see how Conservatives or conservatism are going to benefit by a Republican defeat in 2006. If such a coup d'etat were possible, it would create a clear Liberal Democrat Party plurality (which would equal a majority in Congress), leave a rump "moderate" Republican Party, and a (Congressional) minority Conservative Party that would find it practically impossible to form a coalition with (or even work with) one of the two larger political parties: in part because to compromise would be to do exactly that of which conservative critics accuse the Republicans, "compromising and selling out our principles", and in equal measure because both the Republicans (particularly) and the Democrats (generally) would be so upset about their defectors to the Conservatives that they would be in no mood to grant the Conservatives any voice in the affairs of government.

I also think that you grossly underestimate the amount of time it would take the new "Conservative" Republican Party to a. recognize its mistakes, and b. to "turn things around" with the American people. After the 1964 election debacle with the Goldwater Conservatives, it took 16 years for a Conservative Rennaissance (under President Reagan). After Mr. Reagan's former Vice President abandoned, and was abandoned by, conservatives, it took eight years of Bill Clinton to set things right. Once the Democrats regain control of Congress, the entire "mainstream" news and entertainment community will invest all their energy into convincing the Sheeple of America that they never had it so good. It would be criminally naive to think that you could turn that situation around in two years (even if two years were a "lifetime in politics).

Wouldn't have to LOSE anything if GOP'ers were held to the Conservative standard. The blatant RINO'ism of the last 6-8 years will have a lot of the strict Constitutionalists looking ANYWHERE else for real candidates.

Yes. You do need to give up some battles to win the war. But winning the war by BECOMING the enemy isn't what we need either.
