Wash. Post Oversamples Blacks To Get Negative Bush Headline-Then Hides That Fact Posted by bulldogpundit on Tuesday, 13 September 2005 (01:16:35) EDT Surely you're hearing about the latest Washington Post poll showing "Record Low Poll Ratings For Bush". We'll dispense with the detailed analysis for now to point out something extremely important. In this story (posted Monday, Sept. 12th at 5:31 p.m.), here's what we're told about the poll respondents:
Yet, in this write-up of the same story (posted September 13) the oversampling of blacks in not mentioned.
I think there needs to be a Congressional investigation. Seriously though, why the hell are they oversampling blacks in the first place (hmm, wonder if it's to get the "Bush Has Record Low Poll Ratings" headlines). But the real scandal here is why they omitted the crucial fact from the later story. |
A total of 1,200 randomly selected adults, most of whom are employed by Microsoft, found that Windows is the most reliable Operating System.
What a shock! No way - the media manipulated the news?
Was the total for Blacks 200? If so the oversampling was not that much. Instead of 12% they used 16.67%.
This is series! This is hugh! :0
Nah couldn't be! Never ever - they love Bush! Cough Cough!
This would suggest that they should have had 1200 x 12% = 144 Blacks represented in the poll.
Instead they had 144 + 200 Blacks - 28.7% of those questioned instead of 12%. That is more than double representation in the poll, compared to the population...
Interesting.
Thanks that was not clear from the wording.
