If anyone here is a fan of Brian Setzer (Stray Cats; Brian Setzer Orchestra), then you might appreciate knowing that on his website today, he is featuring only a single prayer for the victims of September 11th. All regular content has been taken down.
Prayer for September 11, 2005
O God, as we remember and reflect upon
the events of four years ago today
as we view over and over again the violent acts,
the massive destruction, the tragic loss of life,
and the selfless bravery that combined
to make that day an historical landmark
we struggle to find words to express our feelings.
What more can be said about
the inhumanity of the terrorists
the courage of firefighters (God bless you Chris),
police officers, and ordinary citizens
and our national sense of violation and loss,
than has already been spoken over the last 4 years
on television, in print, in churches, in homes,
and on street corners.
And yet we must speak
we must give voice to our anger and sadness
still strong within us, after 4 years time
as a way of acknowledging the pain we feel
and opening our hearts and minds
to your healing touch.
It is in our speaking
our praying
that we can begin to purge the violence
and bitterness from our own souls,
and heal the wounds
that give us such pain as a nation.
In our prayers we can begin to open ourselves
to your peace, O God
a peace that the world cannot give
a deep peace that we find in our hearts
when we allow them to rest in your love.
Hear our prayers in this hour, O God,
and help us to feel your love for us
and all your hurting world
help us to remember those who died
in the September 11th attack,
and those who are left behind to mourn them
help our government to find ways
to punish the guilty and keep the innocent in safety.
Hear our prayers, O God,
be with us
touch us
heal us
guide us
and grant us your peace.
God Bless,
Brian

this is my first time posting - hope I am doing this correctly
That is very cool!
And today my (very liberal, voted Kerry, etc.) friend told me she visited her local fire house; she also told me she goes every year on this day.
So that is all very good.
Very good. Thanks so much for this post.
Excellent.

Excellent first post. Now I can be a bigger fan of Setzer.
