Fox News Moves Up to the Next Level of Dominance in TV Coverage
Cable Newser ^ | Aaron Barnhardt

Posted on 09/06/2005 2:17:42 PM PDT by gopwinsin04

What better sign that Fox News Channel has arrived than the fact that Shepard Smith was the guest on 'Late Night with David Letterman' last nght, writes Aaron Barnhardt.

'As I said on the radio yesterday, the media world is coming to grips with the fact that Fox News has moved up to the next level of dominance in televised news.'

'It's coverage of the disaster was consistently gripping, even more so as the week went on...CNN and MSNBC were good, but I kept gravitating towards Fox because ironically, I thought I could get less spin and more reportage there.'

He concludes, 'In the coming years I fully expect Rodger Ailes to beef up Fox's global reporting, add some kind of a headline service, acquire better radio assets and make good on his slogan 'The Most Powerful Name In News.'

Tiresome, but becoming truer every day.

That's funny. That's exactly how we saw him too. Like he was in a cellophane and cardboard box on the shelf of a toy store. Geraldo, the action figure.

I have notieced however that he combs his hair and dresses according to where he is. His moustache even looks bigger sometimes. Maybe he has a wardrobe for all of these changes. :)

Glad you saw that too...it was very obvious to us.

Yep I think Roger blew it. Seems people can't handle success. Rush has the secret and he is friends with Rush s maybe Ailes should get some advice from Rush. He could sure use it (ailes that is...not our Rush)

Has anyone noticed that Fox and CNN and MSNBC are playing musical anchor chairs ? The players are becoming nauseatingly interchangeable.
Fox just gave up Rita Cosby and gets Bill Hemmer from CNN.
Now don't get me wrong, being a guy and all, but you have to admit Hemmer is a whole lot prettier than Rita - well, from the neck up anyways.
I get the feeling it's all about pretty faces and cosmetics anyway, because the pablum is all the same.
Thank the Lord for the 'reasoned oasis' of Brit Hume and Charles Krauthammer.
Now if Fox could only snag Monica Crowley and give up Geraldo to the BBC or maybe Al Jazeera . . . . .

Seriously...speaking of Julia Banderous...did you see her the other night trying to get a word in edgewise when Geraldo was at the scene? He was picking up steam like a snowball rolling downhill. Each time Julia would go to say something Geraldo would jump in, keep talking over her and drown her out. I was so mad. Proved he is in all of this for Geraldo and Geraldo alone just like he always was. If I were Julia...he and I would have had a little talk after the show you can take that to the bank! She was gracious about it though and it showed Geraldo for the camera hog he is.

Fox has sucked like a Hoover Deluxe since the Hurricane Hit.

Actually Fox started sucking big time last weekend during the Crawford coverage. CNN gave a more balanced report.

I just wish FoxNews would tone down their dang banners splattered all over their screen.

Those banners cover up nearly 1/3 of the TV screen real estate, and they serve little purpose.

Wow, have you hit on my sore spot.  I hate their banners so much that at times I have actually watched cnn and had the audio on FOX.  It's nice that they have the print large enough so that people sitting on the 50 yard line can read it, but COME ON....... geeshhhhhh, they ruin half the scenes.  There is absolutely no reason for the banner to be so large..

What they should do is teach all their photographers to shoot their film so that what is normally seen at the bottom of the screen is in the middle!!!

I thought after my rant I'd feel better, but it didn't work....... I am still just as mad!

And I don't care either. FoxNews has Greta. The Queen of TV news. She might be a dingbat, talking about all those silly court cases, but she is probably the most beautiful woman on the planet right now (except my wife, but she doesn't count).

Alicia Acuna, Julie Banderas

Alicia! Bedroom Eyes!

Julie -- Wears too much make up on the set. I saw her in Aruba with little to none on and was like, ohmigod that girl is stunning. I've been a big fan, makeup or not, ever since.

Shep did far and away the best reporting from New Orleans. He has a real talent for it. He's actually better at it than he is at hosting his own show.

No, Fox's ratings are not sinking. During the Iraq war, CNN had higher average viewership during the day.
