FYI
I am going to take it. Not kidding.
Only problem will be the firearm part.
I have worked through this before on FR...I want to own a gun, but I am afraid of them. Perhaps I don't trust myself.
They are selling small portable radios now like the sangen shortwaves that also have the XM satellite reception. I listened here on XM and can not say enough good things about the info available from that resource in such a disaster .
Must have ! I wish the little baygen radio w/ the LED lights had the XM or Sirrus capability. If all the TV and radio stations were knocked out for 500 miles in every direction one could still get critical info via that gem.....add it to yer BoB list Jeff.
Well thought and expressed. It is conclusively clear that the shortcomings, failures and inefficiency is on the local and state authorities: mayor and governor. They have failed as leaders, their irresponsibility before their constituents is appaling. I wish they could be demoted and thrown in jail for being "figures" without any substance.
Thanks Jeff.
My wife and I are updating our emergency kits and plans with new information and understanding.
I would add that folks should keep a "get home bag" in their vehicle, consisting of whatever they need to get home should their vehicle break down or the roads become impassible. Of course, what the pack contains will vary widely depending on individual circustances, but your list is a good starting point.
Acquiring all the stuff necessary for self-sufficiency is a challenging (and expensive) task. I've found that it's helped me to make lists as this reduces the chances of overlooking something.
Thanks, Jeff. Wisdom, for sure. Copying for distribution.
Thanks for sharing your insights!
I have wondered ever since the patients took temporary control of the asylum in Nawlins what might happen in a similar situation in say, Houston. Then again, looking at Katrina's destruction and New Orleans in particular, it's as if Murphy's Law asserted itself. A set of circumstances similar to this may be a long time occurring again....if ever.
Until the next big one?
FGS
We'll be studying this one for years!
At least I hope we learn some lessons which might help during a WMD attack on a major city.
Excellent, as usual, Jeff. Thanks.
